We're All Done...well, sorta

We finished our study on Renaissance
this week, so it's officially summer for us! Even with all my
modifications, it was hard for me to get excited about our lessons this
month, so I'm glad it's over. The material was good, but I think
I'm just tired. Rachel still has a paper to write. The
thought has already gone into it - just editing and final draft left to
do. That shouldn't take her long to complete, then I'll finalize
my recordkeeping for the year. This weekend was our state home schooling convention. I only attended one session on Friday (because the kids were with me), but I spent all day Saturday there. It was very good. I learned a lot. I left much more confident and excited than when I went. The key speaker was Jeff Myers, and he was awesome. He spoke a lot of the importance of kids having a christian worldview and preparing them for not conforming to the general worldview of most people and of most secular colleges. He gave us some scary statistics about children's experiences and teachings in college. It's not enough to simply teach them the word of God, but we must also inoculate situations they'll face and prepare them for it before it happenes. I wish everyone could hear him speak! At convention, I found the one and only piece of curric I still needed for next school year. I attended the used curriculum sale for that reason only. I walked in (1 hour after it began) and went the 8th grade table. There it was! God is awesome. The set I needed was there - brand new - still in the shrinkwrap - for half the price I would have paid had I ordered it. I'm looking forward for the summer. We've got lots of activities planned including a big trip to California in July. We will continue to do some math and enjoy reading good books. I had planned to introduce the girls to keyboarding, but I don't want to be stressed this summer trying to complete electives. Happy Memorial Day! |
