Whew...TGIF!

Posted in Parenting and Family

This was a pretty exhausting week over here. School started this week, and it went well, as I posted earlier this week. We did history, science, L/A, Math and Keyboarding. I've decided to do a 4 day week again this year with Wednesday being our flex day because of a ladies bible study I plan to attend on Wednesday mornings. I registered, but there is a waiting list for the kids, so I may not get to attend after all. It's kinda nice though having two days of school, one day off, then two days to finish the week.

My calendar was absolutely booked at the beginning of the week and it only got worse as the week progresses. I had volunteered to help a neighbor campaign two days this week, so that was fun... and educational.

On top of that, the fall semester started at work today, so I had tons of preparation to do for that. At midweek, the dean of our dept. asked me to teach an extra section of accounting - on campus, Monday nights. He had not been able to secure an instructor for that section. It seems that once again we have a surplus of classes and a deficit of instructors. Rachel's old enough to babysit until DH gets home, so after talking to her, and to DH, I agreed to do it. That puts me at 15 hours that I'm teaching, plus I'm developing a 3 hour course this term too. *sigh* Can anyone say "full-time"?? Well, that is more than the board allows an adjunct to teach/be paid for. To avoid a problem, I agreed to go ahead and develop the course this semester as planned, but get paid for it in the spring semester. This semester required an extreme amount of planning because we're using a new system for online classes and we're using a new textbook in my classes too! LOTS of specifics I had to finalize and put into writing by noon today. I'm so glad I made it - before the students were dumped into my 4 online classes. Now, I just have to prepare for my Monday night class and continue tweaking the new system throughout this semester for my online sections.

Also, on Wednesday, our family was devestated to find out that my mother's sister had a "simple" test done and unexpectedly was held at the hospital and scheduled for quadruple bypass surgery the very next morning. With all that was going on at home, I truly thought I'd be taking my mother to Birmingham on Wednesday night to be with her sister, and returning this weekend. Turns out, my aunt did very well with the surgery and is slowly coming out of the fog to begin her long, hard recovery. My mother is still undecided when she'll go there, so I'm "on call" to take her whenever she thinks it's best she go. Daddy will pick her up. Three of her sisters and one brother are already there - with another sister coming tomorrow (yes, they're a big [and close] family). She's thinking she'll be needed more in the weeks ahead when the help thins out and my aunt is still recovering. She's unmarried (70 yo and never married), but her daugher and granddaughter there in town. Her daughter can't be off for an extended number of days and her granddaughter is in her last semester of law school 2 hours away. She really need to get to class next week and thereafter. My aunt will need someone to help her during the day hours for a while. I'm just so grateful to God that she's okay. She's in excellent physical condition - exercises, eats well, but always a busy person under lots of stress (2 businesses to run). This is really a blow to her since she's never sick and always taking care of everyone else.

The next time you bow to pray, please remember my aunt, Susie, if you think to.  She's such a wonderful person, and this is going to be a very tough recovery for her - as such an independent person.  Thanks...
