A Much-Needed Breather

Posted in Parenting and Family

Today was supposed to be a school-as-usual day, but it ended up being a day of catch-up and quite relaxing.  With last week's emotional turmoil (which actually is continuing into this week since my aunt is suffering through a variety of life-threatening problems that occurred after her open heart surgery), Monday was not good.  I had too much on my plate and lived to regret it.

We drove to Alabama Friday evening and returned Sunday evening.  My aunt's medical condition is a very exhausting topic for me, so I won't even go into it.  Long story short... she was in emergency surgery when we got there Friday night and back in CVICU all weekend, and still is.  Monday revealed yet more problems that they're trying to solve.

Monday got off to a slow start since the girls were tired from the trip.  They didn't wake up until after 9:30, so we couldn't start our studies until about 10:30.  Since I now teach a Monday night course at work, I had a lot to do to prepare for the night's lecture, so I was working on my PPT slides all day while trying to teaching the girls and tend to Camille.  Needless to say, we didn't finish our work Monday, so we completed it today and did a little math.  That was it.

Sarah's first Girl Scouts meeting/party was that afternoon at 3:30, so I was a wreck when we got there...15 minutes late.  I left the meeting as soon as I got there because I accidentally left my cell phone at home, and with Rachel home alone w/ Camille, I needed the phone.  Also, I needed to drop off Rachel's prescription for ADHD meds because she took her last pill that morning.  I returned to the meeting to fill out papers and listen in on the end.  The girls and the moms seem great!  Sarah is excited to be a part of the troop.  They have so many neat activities already planned for the fall.  I'm excited about it.

After the meeting, I rushed home to finish getting ready for work.  Class is at 6, and the meeting ended at 5.  I needed to get there early to figure out the new projector in the class.  I got there and figured out the thing, but wouldn't you know, it required a special ID and password that I did not have.  All that work, and I couldn't even use the slideshow for the class!!!  I made it through the class okay, but boy was I tired.  I hate it when I can't give my best.  I decided then that I'd have to do ALL my class prep work during the weekend.  I can't go through that every Monday...especially on Mondays when we have Girl Scout meetings (2x month).

After leaving class at about 8:45...starved of course, because I hadn't eaten all day... I still had an errand to run before going home.  A good friend of mine (HSer) is moving to CA later this week.  I can't believe how quickly the time has gotten here.  With all that's gone on, we still haven't gotten the kids together as much as we wanted to.  It's sad to think that we may never see each other again.    She had some items that the packers wouldn't pack and that they can't take on the plane, so she wanted me to see if I wanted any of them.  I'm sure gonna miss her.  She was one of my main contacts about HSing issues.  We'll be in touch, but it just won't be the same.  The packers came today, and they leave on Friday.

Yes, today was the breather I needed.  I hope we're back on track tomorrow and onward.
