Back to School

It was kind of nice waking early today - before the kids got up. I came downstairs and sipped a cup of tea while updating my blogspace. I better type fast, since it's already I was shocked, and excited, yesterday when I discovered we are actually on schedule with our HSing after the break. I was sure we were a lesson or two behind in science and history. Fact is, Rachel and Sarah are a lesson AHEAD in L/A...yippee! Since this is a short week of school, we'll skip L/A and catch up on some writing assignments we need to do. Rachel needs to research and write a paper on Jacques Cousteau and finish her paper on Benjamin Franklin. Sarah has to start on her Ben paper - with my help. Today will be a good day as we draw closer to the end of the awesome Amos Fortune biography and dive deeper into our reptile study. No field trip on this topic - that's for sure! I am so relieved that Sarah has grasped the long division concept. I think her initial frustration was my fault. I must get out of my "college instructor" mentality when teaching my kids. I honestly expected her to understand it after I showed it to her x-number of times. Now, I see the benefit of helping her as long as it takes. It only took a couple more times, and she grasped it. Imagine the damage that I'd have done if I had continued on the first path. Thank you Lord for guiding me each day. Let's see. This evening will be a little tricky. Sarah has to be at a girl scout cookie rally at 6:30, Rachel has to be at the game at 6:30, and Camille's bedtime is around 7:30. Looks like I'll do scouts, Terry can take Rachel, and Camille will just have to be cranky. At least the scouts event ends at 8:00 and it's close to home. I'll have to wait and see Rachel's new cheer (with the cradle) on Saturday's game. Well, I better get these sleeping beauties up. It's almost 9:00 for goodness sakes! Oh...wait a minute. If I hadn't gotten up earlier than usual, I'd likely still be asleep too. :-) Looks like we'll be having school until 3:ish today. In the meantime, I'll finish my lukewarm tea and read a chapter from the book of Mark. Isn't HSing grand? |
