Home From Church Today

It feels strange being home from church today. Sarah is sick. This is her second day with high fever. No other symptoms…just very high fever and “feeling bad” when it’s up. I hope this virus leaves soon. In the meantime, I’ve been reading from the book of Mark. Our congregation is doing a “Six weeks of talking and listening to God”, with a chapter and a prayer each day. Today is Jan 7th, so I should be on Mark 7 – and I will by tonight – but I just read chapter 5 this morning. I find it interesting that Jesus told “Legion” to go and tell everyone what had happened to him – how the Lord had healed him; yet, He gave strict orders that Jairus and his wife not tell anyone about how he resurrected their daughter. Some of the evil spirits were not allowed to speak, yet the evil spirits of Legion spoke out and declared who Jesus was. It awes me how Jesus carefully carried out the will of God – even the details of who can tell and who can’t. It all had relevance in the carrying out of the prophesies and in the gospel of Christ. We could never understand why God does what he does, and honestly, I don’t even want to try. This year, I’ve taken part in a community bible study on Wednesday mornings. Classes are even offered for the children. The study is very organized and the facilities are very nice. However, I have decided not to return for the second half of the year. Before the Christmas break we completed the study of 1 and 2 Peter. The study was good. I learned a lot from my personal bible study, but not so much from the group discussions at the CBS. I found that I looked forward to the bible study, but felt very out of place and out of touch with the ladies in the discussion group. Plus, the study is going in a different direction beginning in January. Lots of questionable opinions about the last days will be discussed, and I’d rather study that in private – just me and the Lord. I especially do not want the children being taught things that I’ve not studied myself. The way I see it…if it’s not going to help in our daily walk with the Lord now…if it’s based on what some “believe” and not what God says…I’d rather not be a part of it. The girls will be disappointed, since they’ve made friends with some of the other HSers in their bible classes, but they’ll be okay. Many of them they’ll see in other HSing activities. Now, we’ll just have to do something different for Bible each day. *sigh* It’s almost |
