I read an excellent article in a Hsing magazine that maps out how to discover one’s calling. (1) Evaluate Past Playtime – favorite play themes/fascinations; (2) Pinpoint Personality Preferences – extrovert or introvert, etc.; (3) Observe Strengths – what you do better than most; (4) Observe Favorite Skills – patterns of reappearing skills; (5) Pinpoint Your Passion – what really stirs you?; (6) Watch for Spiritual Gifts – what activites have you been most fruitful?; etc. The steps sound simple on the surface, and I can identify these items quite well with my children and intend to follow these cues and plan their home education accordingly. However, with my husband, it’s much more challenging. He’s struggled with wrong-career-path since college graduation – which was 15 years ago. Needless to say, he’s a bit discouraged about career options. The problem is, he has no idea where the Lord is calling him to be, career-wise. Time and stresses of life and work are preventing him from looking deep within to find his true interests and strengths. I, on the other hand, can clearly see his strengths and many talents. Yet, when I remind him of his amazing talents, he’s not interested enough in them to use them toward a career. This is such an important task, and I have faith that he will find his calling. I’m humbled by the opportunities homeschooling provides… and the awesome responsibility of helping my kids fulfill their life purposes. I’m blessed to be able to influence this aspect of my kids lives. My prayer is that I’ll fully equip them for their life’s calling. |
