Week 1 of our new school year is well underway. Things are going very well after two days. I can’t resist the feeling that we’re not doing “enough” with Sarah though. Sarah is reading Pippi Longstocking independently, and I’m reading The Secret Garden aloud (with narration). The only subjects she does daily are Lit, Math, and Spanish. Geography is three times per week, alternated with Science twice a week. Then, to complete her Language Arts, she does copywork 3 times a week and spelling twice a week. I had planned to do geography daily, but I think it’s a little below her grade level, so we can do it in 3 days per week. Also, Science is not a formal curric this year. Instead, we’re using an experiment book with mini-lessons. She’s LOVING that!!! Rachel, on the other hand, has plenty to do each day. Math is still her struggle. If only I could get her to stop the negative self-talk, I think she’ll excel in Math. She has decided that she’s not good at it, and she hates it. But, actually, she’s doing okay. Her errors are mainly careless, and when it’s not careless, she’s just making it harder than it is. She over-works the problems and misses them. I hate to keep her back and work slowly, but it is what it is. It would do her no good to move at a pace faster than she’s ready to go. In the meantime, she feels dumb because she’s still working through Pre-Algebra and she’s in the 9th grade. She seems to be enjoying The Mystery of History and Apologia’s Physical Science so far. Oh, and she’s expressing an interest now in working in a crime lab. Maybe it’s called forensics, or biologist.. I don’t know. She thinks it would be so cool to work to solve crimes for a living. I told you she was a mystery fanatic, didn’t I. J Well, I better get to bed. I’ve done very well until tonight. I’ve gone to bed by |
