Not So Bad-a-Week

Posted in Home Schooling

The week ended up so-so.  I had some disciplinary issues this week, but I guess that should be expected – especially since we had a little girl staying with us this week.  The dynamic was a little off, and my kids (well, one in particular) weren’t completely attentive.  This was only the first week, so perhaps next week will be a better indicator of how our new school methods are working.

The geography we’re using is great; but the lessons seem a bit short.  We were able to easily complete a week’s worth of work in 3 days… with time to spare.  Sarah and I talked about it, and I’ve decided to go ahead and do geography daily, and when we’ve completed it, we’ll do a different history study the second semester.  There is a BF guide on the history of the horse that Sarah is very interested in.

Camille is surprising me with her zeal for learning new things.  It’s so refreshing!  It seems that each week she shows me something new she can do or say.  This week, she took a church bulletin and started coloring in square bullets on the page.  She actually stayed within the lines, and we haven’t even started working on that yet!  I bought her a coloring book today.  J  Also, she is talking up a storm – with complete sentences and sometimes complex vocabulary.  She wants to read books all day long.  When the girls and I practice our Spanish, Camille is right there repeating the phrases along with us.  It is so cute.  Of course, she hasn’t a clue what she’s saying… LOL… but she repeats it very well.  Home schooling with Camille is much different this year.  She insists on being a part of our school day, and makes her presence well known.  I need to find a way to keep her occupied while I’m helping the older two.

I remember k2 at that age! He of course thought that he needed to be part of the learning--still does, actually. I found it amusing--here he grew up in a hsing family, with learning around him. He just thought everyone should "do 'cool" including him! I remember his being noisy and disruptive, also. Thank goodness that settled down! Camille sounds like she's definitely part of the action--what fun for all of you!
