Our new town has all the amenities a person could want: lots of parks, a great library, small town feel, great shopping and eating areas, etc. Yet, it doesn’t feel like home. It's not so much the place, as it is the people. I know it’s early, but I doubt we’ll retire here. Quite frankly, I’ll give it 2-3 years, max. I know the Lord brought us here for a reason. I'm curious to see what that reason is. Our search for a new church home has been quite interesting. Each congregation is so different. We’ve found only who that feel like our home congregation. The only problem is that it’s a solid 30 minutes away, and everyone we’ve met from there lives in that area. Rachel is at the age where she’s very active in church youth activities, and she's really looking forward to building new friendships there. I’m afraid the distance will affect the number of activities she will be able to participate in. And since no one that we know of lives in our area, carpooling seems to be out of the question. Rachel and Sarah love the congregation, and so do we. There are still a couple more nearby congregations for us to visit, but I have reason to believe they’ll be much like the ones we’ve already visited. Yeah, it looks like we’re gonna have to bite the bullet and make that drive several times a week. Boy, how I wish we lived closer to that area of town. It really seems like a special place. I’ve been displaced for too long. I’m ready to get back into a church family and grow and serve. I can feel myself drifting. I made contact with a local homeschool group tonight. It is a group of moms and kids from this area who do lots of parties and field trips. The website seems to reflect plenty of activities for the younger home schooler. I’m finding that it’s hard to find HS groups with active teens. Perhaps teens are so busy with their own interests and are not involved in HS groups. I hope this one will work well for us. I also talked to the 4-H director for our county, and got really excited!! She was great. Turns out, there is a 4-H group of home schoolers in my town. YAY!! I’m sure we’ll be very involved in that. The meetings start up in September. I learned more about the organization and its activities. I think Sarah and Rachel will love it, and I think it will be a great influence in their lives. |
