The Simple Life

• Aug. 7, 2007 - A Legality Question...

I would like for our Homeschool Fridays to be well, not so "academic".  So, what I'll be doing is letting that be their art, music, sports day and other "extra" stuff.

Since we will not be covering Reading, Writing, Math etc. can I still count that as a school day?????

Hope that's not too silly of a question!!!!!!

Growing In Christ,

Shay

*Jen, don't you dare make any "funny" comments about my record keeping question! (hehehehe)

Absolutely!!!

Art, music, gym/P.E., are all legitimate subjects in public school and even cooking/cleaning/chores can be counted as school under the category of "life skills!" (In high school you get credits for it...they just call it Home Ec.)

I also count outside activities as 'school' (piano lessons, dance classes, swimming lessons, etc.... and family outings to places like zoos or museums are counted as field trips and marked as a school day.)

God Bless,
Michelle

All of those classes would count if you squeezed them in on any other day. It is absolutely a school day. So is a field trip day. When I was in Govt Jr. HIgh School our History class for the semester was a reenactment game as we attempted to find out what went wrong to change History. Heck they even count Study Hall!

We always did a four day book week and did the fun projects on Wednesday to break up the week and catch up on laundry!

Well, seeing as I was only married 2 months ago, and have zero children yet- whatsoever, I feel 110% qualified to bless you with my opinion on this subject:

uh. er. sounds good to me!!!!!

(maybe throw in a few extra cookies each day and not so much math...)

Yes, that will work, especially in SC. Thankfully we have some really good local laws to make things easier for us. They say what subjects to cover but don't say how much or often. I think it's a great plan. My thirteen year old is looking over my shoulder saying that's a GREAT idea. LOL
