Trying to homeschool in Germany

proceedings opened against us

Earlier this week we received notice that legal proceedings have been started against us, and a fine of €1000 was threatened. (Not actually levied, just threatened, at this point.) Some people think that this is in connection with the news article last week, but we don't think so. Whether it is or isn't doesn't really matter--the letter was full of inaccuracies and false accusations, they didn't even bother to get the things right that they COULD have had against us!!

And if anyone is interested in a three-bedroom, 100 square meter (about 1000 square feet)  flat (apartment) on the ground floor, with its own garden (yard), I think the chances of it being up for sale very soon are rising dramatically.

So, as usual, we have little to know idea what is happening next, so all I can say is, watch this space...

It's a good thing you have a move planned soon, I think! {{{HUGS}}} and I know from the 80s here how nerve-wracking it is to have the authorities constantly pestering and not just letting you educate your kids!

I see you went to a DTS with YWAM. We are missionaries in Antigua, Guatemala with YWAM. I'm going to be praying for you and your family during this time. God be with you.

Sep. 15, 2008 - Homeschooling with German as a second language.

Posted by Simone Eichler, South Africa

I am starting to homeschool my children (Hannah 6 & Jonah 3) in January 2009. My husband's family is German, but he does not have the discipline to speak German to our children. Hannah has been attanding a German kindergarten for just over a year and I would love her to continue to learn to speak, read and write German, as well as my son. I have selected the curriculum that I will be teaching, but it only offers German as a 3rd language. I cannot speak or understand German so would not be able to teach myself. My mother-in-law has said that she would take the children once or twice a week to do German lessons with them if I found the resources for her. Could prehaps recommened a programme we could use?
Warm regards from Sunny South Africa :)

My intention was originally just to store all the e-mails I've sent telling about our fight to homeschool in Germany. From August 2005 through February 2006, I also wrote about our experience in the German school system, and then we were out of the country for six months doing a DTS with YWAM. We've been back since the beginning of September, 2006.
