Educating Emme

• Apr. 12, 2006 - It's raining books

We're having one of our first spring thundershowers.   Just a gentle reminder that spring is here.  The rain has stopped for a bit, and I can now hear the song sparrows out in the budded branches of our trees discussing the situation at hand.  Tomorrow, however, is going to be a gloriously sunny day of 71 degrees!  I wonder if they know the weather ahead of time and have plans just as I do?

I am reading four books at the same time again.  I know I swore I wouldn't do that anymore, but I just can't seem to help myself.  That and the Bible.

Right now I am reading:

A Gown of Spanish Lace - Janette Oke

This is the current book club read for my Yahoo book club.

Red Lily - Nora Roberts.

3rd in the Garden Trilogy series.

Home Education book 1 - Charlotte Mason.

Love's Unending Legacy - Janette Oke

5th in the Love Comes Softly series.

I must admit, 3 out of 4 of the books are light reading (twaddle).  Perhaps that is why I read so many at once?  I wish I could find a way to just read ONE novel at a time.  Homeschool books, religious material, self-help, etc would be ok as one extra book on the side.  But ONLY one novel!  How do I make myself do that?

Our book club read for the month of May is "Katherine" by Anya Seton and Philippa Gregory.  At least this book is set in the 14th century and has a true historical background.  So, I suppose this one won't be twaddle.  LOL

This summer while the children and I are doing out "Ten Terrific Weeks: Egypt"

Usborne Children's Books  I am going to read: Amazon.com: The Memoirs of Cleopatra: Books: Margaret George     I'm excited.

Perhaps with reading more historically based fiction, I won't read so many books at one time.  At least one can hope.

Wow, four books at once:) I do well to read two books at once and most times stick to one at a time. I am currently reading the 11th book in Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time Series and The Well Trained Mind.

So did you enjoy random blog day?

Hi Sherry. Did you just change your wallpaper on the blog? I thought it was the purple one yesterday or was it the day before?

You know, I think that you should just let the pinching episode go for the moment but monitor the situation. The teacher knows you are aware and if she misbehaves again, please tell your daughter to inform you.

All smart kids get upset when they don't get their As. I think it's just like us when we cannot achieve 100% of what we set out to do. So just encourage her to try harder if she thinks that she could have done better. What I do for my children is to supplement their education with good classics from my time, fun and interesting educational computer games, art and craft and of course, creative writing. I think if your kids like to bake, you can try to borrow great baking books and just let her mess around the kitchen and turn out surprises or her own recipes for you. Then get her to type them up, illustrate them, make into a book and reproduce for Christmas presents, etc. - Jennah's Delights or something like that. Should be challenging and fun.

For Math stimulation, I try to buy funny kinds of puzzles - things they can work with their hands. I think you should also invest in a simple juggling book and buy a set of juggling balls. It is very good for them.
Cheerio. Talk to you again. Blessings from
Ai Boon
