Hobbits From The Shire - Natural and Organic
Hobbits From The Shire

May. 30, 2006 - Natural and Organic

Here's about our new venture!

This past weekend I visited our local Food Cooperative.  My inspiration to take this step was to provide hormone free dairy and meat products for our family.  In my mind, if I already have a hormone imbalance, what's all those hormones doing to my already imbalanced problem?  So lets just cut them out.  Todo was a little leary of tasting Organic Milk, but he did and he couldn't tell the difference.  If anything it's better!  Organic yogurt is definatly better!  I haven't gotten any of the cheeses yet.  But did purchase fruits and veggies.  I was surprised that their prices are really not much more than our grocery store!  Much better than I expected!
I am also cutting all refined sugar and brown sugar out of our diets.  In it's place I will make my own brown sugar of Fructose and Molasses, and use Fructose for white sugar, honey in some recipes for sugar and also molasses.  This because refined sugars make my Insulin spike.  Making me insulin resistant.  Frustose, Honey and Molasses hit the blood stream more gradually so then you don't have that insulin spike with a sugar high followed by a sugar crash.  And it will help all the other symptoms to cut out the refined sugar too.

I've been told that I have a genetic chemincal imbalance and need medication by different people, but all I can say to that is, if you had any idea what it's like to have a hormone imbalance you would understand why I refuse to take prescription medications.  I do not need prescription medications.  You already know what it's like when you cycle, how your hormones act up....PMS....just take that and multiply it by 10 or even 20!  Hormone imbalance is nothing to take lightly and is not something to quick fix with Prozac, in fact, Prozac wouldn't do any good for a hormonal imbalance.  I am however very excited about changing our diet lifestyle and taking the Nutritionals from Insulite Labratories to reverse my Insulin Resistance and PCOS!  I cannot express how much I look forward to feeling like a normal woman, instead of something in between!  The more I learn the more I realize that I've had this my whole life and I don't know what it's like to be normal!  I'm looking forward to that normal!

On to family matters,

Berylac and Olo are really enjoying the outdoors these days!  They've been playing in their Octopus sprinkler and kiddy pool almost every day!  They have such a blast.

We planted 69 tomato plants last night and this morning at my cousins house.  We're sharing their garden with them this year.  I'm so excited!  It will be so nice to have our own fresh veggies!

My flowers are really taking off and growing well!  I'm amaized at how fast they take off.  A little bit of knowledge about buying your flowers.....when you purchase from hardwares, supermarkets and department stores, such as Walmart.....they get their plants shipped in.  The grower sprays those plants with a growth retardent to keep them looking better in the flats, the results after you plant them?  They set there for days or even weeks before they take off and grow and they aren't going to get as big and lush as plants you purchase from a greenhouse where they grow their own plants!   I purchased from Lowes last year and I knew better, but did it anyway and they didn't grow well.  I was dissapointed.  This year I went to the greenhouse that My parents use to own and got all my flowers there.  I planted them last week and by the weekend I could tell that they had already started growing and today about 5 days after my impatiens were planted they are at least double the size they were!  And they look so much healthier!  Just something I thought I'd share.  Many people don't realize the whole growth retardent thing.

Eating organic certainly won't hurt! How nice that the prices aren't expensive. I always thought they were.... hmmm

And I never knew about the "growth retarder" thing either. Nice plants!

What LoTR Character Are You?
You are most like Frodo. You're very friendly, and you have a great personality. Although you like to have fun, you can also be pretty serious at times. It's pretty hard to get you mad, but once you're mad...everybody better look out! Keep that temper under control and realize that you're better off than you may think.
