My Journey through Homeschool Land

Aug. 1, 2006 - First Entry

I am entering the world of blogging.  Something new to me but something that has captured my interest as well.  Who knows, I may stink at this .  It is a homeschool blog so I guess I will start there.  We have been homeschooling for several years now and I can never decide on curriculum from one year to the next.  I always think I will like something and either I don't like it or it doesn't fit the learning style of one of the little scholars.  Of course there is the issue of finances in the decision making process.  Recently I stumbled on Classic Education; so now I am trying that method for the most part.  I have been reading over the last couple weeks about self-education (in other homeschool bloggers blogs) and that has my curiousity radar bleeping.  I guess that is something I never gave much thought to but it does sound enjoyable.  Along with over-whelming, not enough time in the day, and how can I keep up with that and everything else!  We'll have to wait and see how that pans out.  Something else I was reading about is Latin Centered Curriculum.  That sounds great too, dump a load of subjects and focus on a few which will eventually get you what you need.  Then I remember that I live in a state that requires you teach a list of subjects every year!  I haven't figured out yet how that would work for us or anyone living in the states that mandate certain subjects but I am working on it.

Have a blessed day.

Welcome to HomeschoolBlogger! Many homeschool families face the same situations you do with budgets, trying a new curriculum or approach, finding that it works for this child but not that one. I'm sure you will find plenty of support here at HSB.

My family is starting on the Classic way of learning too. Have you looked at The Well Trained Mind by Wise and Bauer? It seems to be right up our alley of learning. To start from the beginning and to be proficient! I am excited about all the things I'm going to learn with my children.

What is your resource?
