My Journey through Homeschool Land

Sep. 20, 2006 - Ramblings

It's been a while since I have had time to sit at the computer and do more than empty my e-mail.  The flu/cold thing went all through the house.  All is better now.  I had several thoughts on what to write about and now that I'm sitting here I can't rememeber a single one of them.  The fall tv shows are starting and again it doesn't look like anything much worth watching.  We don't have the tv on much but it is nice to have when dh works late nights and after everyone else is in bed for the night.  I can't sleep until he gets home so I like to watch something.  Somtimes it ends up being the Weather Channel.

Anyone else not do the whole halloween thing, what do you do instead?  I had to laugh when my dd was asked by her aunt what we do since we don't trick or treat, she casually  states "We hide."  That came from the year that trick or treat in our neighbor hood was at night and you were suppose to turn your porch light on if you wanted trick or treaters, since we didn't turn our light on and usually don't have many lights on anyway one child said to the other that we were hiding from the trick or treaters.

What other cute things have the children said???? I'll have to think on that one.  I wish I would have written them down as they said them.

That's the funny thing my 6 year old says. We've had colds here, but no flu. We do trick or treat at the neighbor's houses and hand out candy. I've never seen it as a big Satan vs. Christian night, but I know a lot of folks and friends who do.

Well, time to start our school day! May you have a blessed day and a relaxing weekend!

We don't do Halloween. I have always thought of it as a real worldly holiday. There isn't anything Godly about it. The whole thing about Witches, and ghosts, and devils just dosen't set right with us. We were VERY fortunate to have a child born on October 31st, so we usually have a little birthday party for him. Last year we did a superhero party, so kids who don't celeberate Halloween, can still come dressed up as their favorite superhero. That was fun, but it was so much work, I probably won't ever do that again! lol! We had one year, when we were just getting home when the trick or treaters started coming by. My son yelled out... "go away trick or treaters!" We had to explain to him that, that wasn't nice to do, even if we don't agree with celebrating Halloween. It was funny though! So, that is my take on it!

Our family does not do halloween either. We never have. We take that night and have what we call "pioneer night". We use nothing electric, which mean we have dinner and play games by oil lamp light. This way we have no trick or treaters that come by. We have a great time.
