Show & Tell Friday
Posted in Show and Tell Friday
It's Show & Tell Friday over at Mary's Blog! Please stop by to see all of the treasures...
Since we're heading back to school, I thought I would keep with that theme for my next couple of Fridays. The first thing I have here is my great-grandfather's high school commencement program from 1908, followed by his photograph the same year.

This is the keepsake book that was given to my great-grandmother (other side of the family) upon her graduation, by her teacher. There are no pictures of her in her youth, but she is the one who had several fires that destroyed many treasures.
(Front cover)

(Inside)

It's dated, 1904~ 1905 and lists all those in her graduating class. It's funny, but they call her "Lotta" instead of Charlotte or "Lottie" as I had always seen. It's interesting to note that listed under "Officers" is her father's name, J.P. Alley. I have spoken of him and posted his picture in the past. He's the one who fought in the Civil War, and whose wife purchased the set of blue dishes that were handed down to me.

Wow! They are in great shape. I see you enjoy your history of your family too. I too have helped my Dad out with our Family History. It's so amazing of their life, culture and etc. Well you be preserving those too?
What a very neat S&T today.

I love looking at old (like these) pictures. He's a handsome fellow and Lotta is beautiful (unlike some of those old photos, where it looks like they're sucking persimmons). You must really have a passion for history. I really got into US history in my homeschool co-op; We did a whole unit on the Civil War and divided the kids up into North and South. It was so good, as the two sides were studied without prejudice and the kids learned about the godly leaders of the South.
Sorry...I digress...

You have a very handsome great grandfather and a young family - my daddy was born in 1913 (well, come to think of it, I have the unusually old family) lol. Neat stuff - like always! You inspire me, I wonder if I'd get very far trying to do a family tree - I know both sides of my family are from Germany, but don't know how far back I could go with that - I wish I could go back to Moses - lol.
