Sing me to Heaven

The joys and trials of being a singer

5:12 PM, Saturday, November 22, 2008 .. Posted in Music Related .. 14 comments .. Link

Everybody like my new template? I had some fun getting it transfered... it's remarkable that it hasn't been deleted in the process. ;-)

Now for the news. This Monday night, I will be going through an ordeal of sorts. Those who have been through auditions before know how I feel.   Those who haven't will wonder why I'm making this a big deal. ;-)

This will be the second in a series of three auditions to determine the members of the 2009 Texas All-State Choir. At the first audition- Region level- something like 24 singers are chosen from each voice part to advance. I made 3rd chair (third place) in that. This Monday night is the Pre-Area audition. The same singers who made Region will re-audition, but this time, only 6 will be chosen for each voice part.

I have to go in a room to audition three choir pieces, but I'll be by myself with only the CD accompaniment for aid. Our pieces are Alleluia by Paul Basler (for women only), Cantate Domino from the Dorchester Canticles by Tarik O'Reagan, and Dona Nobis Pachem from the B minor Mass by J.S.Bach. And, after that, we have to do sight-singing, which is basically that: singing an 8-measure tune by sight.

Now those who know me are saying, "Hey look, Grace, you did this last year and did fine. So how can you be nervous at all?"

But, see, that's the problem. I did it last year as a Freshman, never expecting to make All-State, and, wonder of wonders, I did. And it was so gloriously amazing that I want to be there again, be swamped in music for a week again, sing my heart out from 8am to 9pm again. *sigh*
So I'm nervous. Not as desperately nervous as I was a few weeks ago; thankfully I'm much better prepared now. But I can't help falling back and forth between confidence, and fearing to hope too much. You must know the feeling. When there's something you want enough, you can't help hoping, but you're so vulnerable if you do.

So I'm trying not to think about it, just to trust. In the end, it doesn't matter whether I make it or not. It only matters that I do my best. Tell me that on Monday! Also, remind me how much I LOVE singing!!

I'd appreciate your prayers, and also for my fellow singers who also are suffering from the jitters. ;-)

~Grace

I didn't know what to do for a "Subject" to this comment so the exclamation points will have to suffice. ;-)

First off, you definitely get and A+ on the template. Me loves it mucho! Muy, muy bien!

Secondly, you know we'll be praying for y'all. I never actually did any All-State Auditions but I probably would have made myself sick getting nervous about them, so maybe that's a good thing. :-P Oh yes, and I may as well remind you that you ARE a fabulous singer (an inspiration to us all), whatever the results it's for the best (you're a child of the King), and no matter what we all love you! And in comparison to our dear Savior's love that ain't nothin'! If the other 'auditioners' are feeling queesy about it, feel free to let them know that Hall's are thinkin' about 'em (if you think it would help). :-)

Lastly, the blog entry I'm writing is coming along at an amazing rate of about 1 spd (sentence per day). I guesstimate it should be complete by the new year. Just kiddin'. I really DO want to post it soon so just keep buggin' me about it. ;-)

Love you bunches!

Aww, I understand the nervousness...just not in this context :-D. I'll be praying for you! But just remember it's all in God's hands. That is SO hard for me at times! Hope you have a good time despite being nervous :-D.

I love the new template! It's so pretty!

God bless,
Toni

Grace,

remember that comment you left on my blog about speech? Yeah well not it's my turn.... I want to remind you of the time in the play when you saved Mrs. Puckett (she forgot her line and we all just stood there not knowing what to do). It was the understudy performance and we were all nervous. You knew exactly what to do to save us all from utter humiliation.

All this to say that you, my dear friend, are going to do well. You practically breath in song, so I know that you are going to do just fine! :D

Remember that the focus isn't you, it should be above. So no worries, chill and all that.

And besides, no matter what happens, we'll forever remain your undying musical fans. What could be better than that? (probably a lot) ;D

Say hey to Aaron for me if you run into him.

P.S. I like your new blog layout, it's more readable.

Congratulations! You are the winner of the Doll Closet Giveaway!

Hi Grace!

I hope the whole auditioning goes well! I'm sure you'll do wonderfully, and even if you don't happen to make the choir, you will still be just as special to God. (And all your family and friends, bloggers included ;-) I can understand your jitters, even if I haven't been through the auditioning process. That sight reading would have me scared out of my wits as I sing and play music mostly by ear, so I can semi-understand if it helps!

Oh yes, this may be too late on Monday, but Grace- you LOVE, LOVE, LOVE singing! It doesn't take too much to figure that one out!

It's 9:54:39 am West Coast time on Tuesday morning right now and I literally just got your e-mail and read your post.

Please, please, PLEASE don't take it personally!

My heart and soul go out to you! I know your pain only too well.

My disappointment at being the last one to get the news is HORRIBLE! It makes me sick.

Let me know the results A.S.A.P.!!!! On Sunday I'll be in the car travelling home from California so I might have time to talk then. That way the whole family could get the news!

I MISS YOU!!! :'(

BTW, I have super-de-duper exciting news too. You'll be so disappointed that you can't be up here right now!

(I know that sounds mean, but I mean well. Besides, I wish I was down where you are a lot.)

I like the new look on your blog (I updated mine too not to long ago).
I don't like doing stuff in front of people ether, unless I'm acting. I don't know why though beacuse I'm really, really shy. We just have to remember that God is with us no matter what.
Good Luck and God Bless,
Luckyme

GraceElizabeth

Grace is a 17 year old girl who is striving to follow God's leading, but would be constantly embracing failure if God didn't just sweep her off her feet, sometimes against her will. Music is her first love and expertise: specifically voice, but also piano. She has been trained classically, which is a good thing, most of the time, except when she wants to sing pop style... and can't. Her favorite genres of music are Celtic, Scottish and Irish folk songs/jigs, film music, and broadway show tunes. Grace also takes pleasure in the beautiful diversions of writing poetry, Ultimate Frisbee, sketching, dancing in the rain, Irish Step Dancing, speech and debate tournaments, scrapbooking, acting, reading, photography, standing outside at night while the wind whips the trees every which way, and talking about herself in the third person.
