There was a new arrival at our home not long ago. Must've been almost three weeks ago now. Sorry I've neglected to post. Anyway, this new... edition is something I (and Emily too) have been hoping for for a while, and it was greeted happily once it was found, though it did take me a little while to become genuinely enthusiastic about its charms. It's really a very satisfacory specimin of its kind. Because of its winning personality, and an eagerness to please, not to mention a lovely mahogany skin-tone and rich timbre, I've grown attatched to my new cello.
Here it is, in all its comeliness, though not in all its glory, since that comes only when you hear it sing. It is shaped and curved very beautifully, though.
I love the 'F holes', as they are called. Unfortunately, since I'm only renting it, it's not brand new, and bears the marks of some rather careless person who was over-enthusiastic in their down-bowing. (Drawing the bow to the right) There are a lot of nicks on the right side. But, other than that, it's perfectly fine! I hope I'll soon be able to play it better. It is willing to please, but it helps for the cellist to keep her fingers un-tangled. My left hand, the one that controls the fingerings, needs limbering up, too. My hands are pretty small, and I've discoverd that there are some muscles that are needed for cello that you don't often use elsewhere. You should see me practice! I have to wring out both my hands (holding the bow is taxing too) every once in a while, because they get so stiff. However, I am happy to say that I can coax some wonderfully rich sounds out of it at times, and I'm expert at Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star! (Haha, give me a break; I've only had two lessons!)
I like it very much. :-) But it's interesting how similar 'cello' sounds to 'jello'.

Congratulations on the new cello, Grace! I'm still renting my flute and have dropped it once, and hit it against the stand quite a few times. *blush* =)
It still works, though--I love it. : ) It will soon be mine, as we've been renting it for a year and five months, now. *evil laugh*
I enjoy fiddling around (no pun intended ; ) on my sister's violin while killing a cat. I am pretty good at Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, the ABC's, and Teacup, Teacup, in the Sky (or something like that) from Alice in Wonderland. ; ]
Anyhoo, I am looking forward to the day that you join symphony!
Blessings~

Nice All-State Certificate in the background. Where'd you copy that from?
I'm justifiably jealous right now. You can call me "Justifiably Jealous Josi". (Say that five times fast!)
Hey Grace! If you can, I'd like to hear from you on Sunday. News sure has been piling up and I'm anxious to clear most of it before we visit NSA again. Otherwise I'll have so much to say next time we call that I won't be able to get it all out in time!

Wow, that is a beautiful cello! You both look so pretty! ;)
How are you? I'm sorry I haven't been around lately. I really like your new template!
That is a lovely cello. I took cello for a few months last year, but gave it up for lack of time. However, I adore the richness of its sound. You ought to name your cello. I named mine Harmony, though unfortunately, I didn't coax much harmony out of it! :)
Blessings!
Meg

Random indeed! It took me a moment to figure out how in the world you got on that subject. :) That is a hilarious story!!
I've missed you, too. I have not been commenting or emailing at all lately, and it got pretty bad. Now I'm trying to keep on top of it though. How are you?
I can't think of anything random at the moment (strange for me), but just give me a couple days and I'll come by again with something that will knock you off your feet...er, office chair. :)
In His Love,
~Kylie

Cool! I love the cello. At that raate you'll be really good really fast. I still got 11 months left in 2009 in which to fulfill my promise, but I think I'll try to do it sooon. I've virtually abandoned my poor blog the last couple months.

Oh good- I'm glad the instructions will help someone out! It'd be great to see some pictures if you get around to making them. *Hint* *Hint* ;-)
That is so neat that you are playing the cello! Its such a lovely sounding instrument. So this is your first stringed instrument? Hope you're hands are starting to get used to it! And the fingers too. I've heard that the cello requires some callouses- is that so? It took my fingers some time getting used to playing the fiddle, but not like the cello I'm sure!

You are making me jealous... I want to be musical! No instruments and no one to teach me. Maybe someday I will be able to.
But yours is so pretty! Glad you got it.
Love,
Rachel

Josie: The All-State Certificate is mine. That's my room. Maybe I'm not understanding your question? Hmmm. You could have meant: "Hey Grace, since I know you always get your pictures off the internet, I bet that's probably not your cello, I'm sure it's someone else's. So where'd you copy that from?"
Or: "You definitely wouldn't hang your real All-State certificate on your wall- mine's in a locked vault in the basement. So you must have copied yours somehow and framed it."
Which one did you mean??

So you play cello?
My sister and I play cello too. And my brother is just starting. His cello is so cute, I think it's an 1/8 in size.
Grace is a 17 year old girl who is striving to follow God's leading, but would be constantly embracing failure if God didn't just sweep her off her feet, sometimes against her will. Music is her first love and expertise: specifically voice, but also piano. She has been trained classically, which is a good thing, most of the time, except when she wants to sing pop style... and can't. Her favorite genres of music are Celtic, Scottish and Irish folk songs/jigs, film music, and broadway show tunes. Grace also takes pleasure in the beautiful diversions of writing poetry, Ultimate Frisbee, sketching, dancing in the rain, Irish Step Dancing, speech and debate tournaments, scrapbooking, acting, reading, photography, standing outside at night while the wind whips the trees every which way, and talking about herself in the third person.
