(This is written like a song- the pattern is verse, bridge, and chorus. Three of each.)
The cry of America now seems to be:
“The winds of change are blowing!”
In business and art, change is the key-
In fashion and media, all that we see
Is change, as its praises are growing.
Too busy changing our dull, boring lives,
We forget to look up towards the leaves and the sky.
We want to control everything that we can,
But have we forgotten God’s wondrous plan?
Change is occurring, though we pay no heed.
Seasons still change, and brown still yields to green.
Change is essential, but there’s only One
Who can change death to life and give light to the sun.
The modern-day businessman takes to be true
All that the media tells him.
“If you want to be happy, focus on YOU.
Your house and your car and your phone must be new.
The ones that you have are out-dated.
How can we focus on such useless things
As up-to-date trends that exist on a breeze?
We constantly change to be in with the times,
But is it worth it to give up our lives?
Oh, change is occurring, though we pay no heed.
Seasons still change, and brown still yields to green.
Change is essential, but there’s only One
Who can change death to life and give light to the sun.
A young mom walks into an appliance store,
Toting her three-year-old son.
He’s trying to show her how lions can roar,
But she wishes his daycare was open past four.
More intent on price-tags than his fun.
Our children, our loved ones, are we so hard at heart
That we don’t cherish them for the time that we’ve got?
Time passes, change happens in other ways, too,
Apart from the fashions and taxes and ‘rules’.
Oh, change is occurring, though we pay no heed.
Seasons still change, and brown still yields to green.
Change is essential, but there’s only One
Who can change death to life and give light to the sun.
Wow! Your song is so truthful and passionate. Thanks for being so bold with your message!
This world is changing... but it all amounts to nothing if God's being thrown out of the picture.
Thanks again for speaking out!

Oh, I love it! That's so true. Change is confusing-sometimes we yearn for something to change, but other times we're scared of change. Your first verse made me think of the bumper sticker, "I'll keep my money, you can keep the change." :-) Thanks for reminding me that God is unchanging!
Love,
Christina

Splendid Dahling!!!
No, really! I loved it! I hope you do write a melody for it! When you have the right one you can copy it down to your fancy music notebook. Wouldn't that be cool?

Hi!
I apologize for not commenting in a while. I've been behind in my blogging. (blush)
The message to your poem is so true -- and truly sad.
If you like to give people hard time about spelling my blog is a good place to go ;-)
Yes! ARCansas!

See, that's what's great about you, Grace, because you tell it like it is. Not from the world point of view (we're all winners! Do this, because you deserve it!). =)
Great job, and I agree with everyone else - you should write music for it.

P.S. - the picture at the top of the post is really pretty, too!
Wow!

It looks like you love LOTR as much as I do. Hi I'm preacherskid and if you would like to be friends, let me know. Cause I'll be adding you sometime this week. Not to mention a great job on the song.

Grace is a 17 year old girl who is striving to follow God's leading, but would be constantly embracing failure if God didn't just sweep her off her feet, sometimes against her will. Music is her first love and expertise: specifically voice, but also piano. She has been trained classically, which is a good thing, most of the time, except when she wants to sing pop style... and can't. Her favorite genres of music are Celtic, Scottish and Irish folk songs/jigs, film music, and broadway show tunes. Grace also takes pleasure in the beautiful diversions of writing poetry, Ultimate Frisbee, sketching, dancing in the rain, Irish Step Dancing, speech and debate tournaments, scrapbooking, acting, reading, photography, standing outside at night while the wind whips the trees every which way, and talking about herself in the third person.
