Today was the year’s last Homeschool Tuesday at the Whitaker Science Center in Harrisburg. [Actually, we were supposed to have gone 2 weeks ago but that lab was canceled because of snow.] There’s a new exhibit featuring metal dinosaur skeletons that the kids can control using levers and pulleys. It’s an interesting combination of basic physics (simple machines) and paleontology. Nathan especially really enjoyed it.

Nathan’s lab today was Chemistry Concoctions and Kayla’s was Bone Riddles. Maureen joined us with Mark and Jackie for an early I-Max film. We saw Hurricane on the Bayou about Katrina and the loss of wetlands. It was very interesting and informative. It also reminded me that I really love zydeco. Later tonight, I’m planning to dig out some old zydeco tapes we’d bought the last time we were in Louisiana.

While Kayla was finishing her lab we saw a presentation on Body Parts featuring actual human parts – liver, spleen, heart, and brain. Thanks to Steve, the kids have seen plenty of brains but the spleen was especially interesting.

Feb. 27, 2007 - Hi!
I was just reading over the front page and the words "Harrisburg" and "Whitaker Center" caught my attention, so I decided to visit your blog.
We're also from PA, and are always looking for good field trip opportunities (as they are so much more fun than hanging out at home!) Looks like you've pretty much cornered the market on PA field trips, so I'd like to add you to my friends list and keep up with your travels, maybe get some ideas for our family!
Nice to meet you~ and welcome to Homeschool Blogger!

.....for your nice comments regarding my new blog template. This is my 2nd blog (I closed my first one), and I really enjoy "playing" around with it to make it my own.
I will say that, in my experience, the library template is one of the easiest to re-do. If you ever want to change yours, I'd be happy to help.
