"Folk" Tales

Getting in a Rhythm

Things are going well now with our new household.  I need to change sixfolks to tenfolks.   We are in our third week of school.  My older guys (Luke and Levi) are working on Sonlight Core 5 and my younger 3 (Isaac, Julia, and T) are enjoying Rod and Staff workbooks, Veritas K, and Isaac is breezing through 100 Easy Lessons.  Of course we are playing a lot also.  Little S (2) always wants to join in.  He dances to the alphabet song.   D (8) is doing well in 3rd grade at the school across the street.

I continue to be amazed at the chain of events that has brought us to this place - first, with our desire for more children.  Two years ago, Paul and I began looking into getting my tubes reversed.  Unfortunately, my fear of the surgery ended that route.  We talked about adoption.  Paul expressed his willingness to take what the Lord brought to him, but not go through an agency.  At that point, I figured we would not be adding to our family - I mean what are the chances of that?

If you've been reading my blog long enough, you know about our "RV experiment".  That is another example of how our plans were not God's plans.  If we had gone through with the RV, (or apartment- another idea) none of this would have happened.  We actually got a phone call asking us to live in this house.  Two weeks later, after 8 months on the market, our home sold and we moved into this great farmhouse.

Had our plans worked out, we would not be in the position to help this family now.  These children are not my children, they will only be here temporarily.  However, I have the opportunity to show God's love to these little ones.  I also have the opportunity to exhibit true Biblical hospitality.  Not just having friends over for dinner, but helping those in need.

Now, to keep it real, I have difficult days.  There is a ton of laundry to keep up with.  I have to buy double everything at the grocery store.  Lunch and dinner can be a logistical nightmare.  There is a lot more to tidy up. And, a lot less privacy.  Just the other day I stepped out of the bathroom to six faces standing outside the door waiting on me.

Praise the Lord for dragging me through this life and pointing me in the right direction even when I'm going the other way!

Thanks for your prayers and sweet comments.

Corey

You must get very tired. I admire how you seem to be handling so well. I'd be a lunatic by now. LOL...

Good job!

Glad to hear things continue to go well for you and the "pack".

We loved core 5 from a couple of years ago. I think that was one of our favorite cores.

Sounds like you're getting into a routine. I'm so proud of you Corey, you're doing what many would not. Sad to say but so true. When my mom and dad divorced (I was 5), my mother was not able to take care of us propperly (she's mentally ill) and my dad totally stepped out of the picture for 21years and didn't even bother to pay child support. None of my dad's siblings nor my mom's stepped into help. A lot happened that shouldn't have, mainly neglect and emotional abuse. For a long time I was very angry at my uncles and aunts but since have forgiven as I have been forgiven by our Lord. Thanks for what you're doing.
Blessings, Julie

I've just spent about an hour or so catching up with your happenings. I was sorry to hear that your RV experiment didn't work out, but what a neat blessing to be able to rent that wonderful house! How very exciting!

Sep. 1, 2008 - Catching Up--and Praying for You!

Corey,

I hadn't had a chance to catch up with you in awhile! I just read the past few days' worth--looks like I have a lot of news to catch up on! (Life's been nuts here, too, just in different ways! I need to catch *my* blog up!!!)

God bless you for being willing to help in this way! It's never easy when "life" upsets our well-laid plans--and yet in those moments are often our greatest and sweetest blessings!

You will be in my prayers!

Trisch

I'm glad to seee you have this all in the Lord's perspective....that this is your adopted family and you are showing them the Love of Christ daily -- even on those hairy days. Praise the Lord.......and look at the example you are setting for your biological children. Doing what the Lrod has asked of us in His Word, that honestly, many do not do --- loving others as Christ would, not just in words but in ACTION.
