"Folk" Tales

Sep. 25, 2008

Hello

Where do I begin?

It seems that our "stable home" was quite turbulent for some time.  However, the seas have calmed and we are paddling in unison once more.  We consider ourselves a family of nine for the time being.

All of the children are adapting well to their new normal and it is lovely to watch Julia and T pretend to be sisters.  (I worried at one point that I wasn't allowing Julia time with other girls her age - that maybe I needed to schedule play-dates, well, she's on the ultimate play-date now)

The boys adore two year old S.  The feeling is mutual.

Bickering and sharing issues pop up occasionally.  We have noticed an immence difference in the way Paul and I address the situations with correction and discipline and the way his brother handles things with his two.  It is diffucult at times to bite my tongue, but I know it is best to do just that.  --  We have had past and current (yesterday) experiences of others explaining to us how we should do things.  We know that only causes discord.  So we will continue to model our ways and show love to them all.

My family is begining to emerge from their slumber.  I'll try to post more regularly now that our routine is better established.

Corey

It is hard to watch other parents handle discipline when it is opposite of what we believe. I can imagine how hard it must be for you to keep quiet. I guess we all have different things going on in our lives that kind of dictate our paitience level and such. Maybe his watching you discipline will rub off :) Good luck!

Kudos for your striving for harmony in your home. I confess it would be nearly impossible for me to keep quiet as I act out way to much in my emotions. Great job, Corey!

This is gonna sound weird, but I'm so proud of you! I just feel honored to know someone (even if it's just as pixels) that is so gracious and giving. I know I don't have a right to be "proud" but it's the best word I can come up with.
You're in my prayers!

Hi Corey,
My nieces live two doors from me. They are 13 and 10, and I have my 4 and 5 year old. It is such a challenge in how I communicate and/or discipline them because their (divorced) parenting style is completely different from mine. I am always torn between when I should step in or let something go.
I am glad that they are all getting along well, for the most part.

Sep. 28, 2008 - beautiful girl

Inside and out you are beautiful and if Paul were a girl he would be beautiful too. So that makes him handsome inside and out. You two are precious to all those aroumd you but most of all "in the sight of the Lord". I pray for patience and wisdom in what you are facing. Look to the face of God for answers you need. Love, Mom

I know what you mean about the discipline differences thing - I have to bite my tongue often with my SIL too. Glad to hear things are calming down there.
