Homesick Julia

My mom (Nana) was is town yesterday.  It is so nice that she only lives an hour away now.  She and Julia have a sweet relationship and Julia loves to go to Nana and Papa George's.  Plans were made for Julia to spend the night with them last night and we were to meet today to bring her home.

She got homesick.  I got a phone call at twenty after ten.  "I have an upset child here."  It took only a moment to realize that we would be driving up to get her.

So, we packed the boys in the van and started up the highway.  I looked in the backseat at Isaac's grin.  He'd already mentioned how he'd missed his sister.  He was eager for her return.

We met Mom and George halfway and exchanged the happy passenger.  I have to say she's just like her momma.  And my momma knows that I would rather come get her no matter how far I have to travel than have her upset.  Thanks for calling, Mom.

What a sweet memory! I bet you'll think about that at her wedding, and she'll think about it when she's a mama.

I'm like that too. Whenever we leave the kids overnight I am adamant that they call us if the kids get upset and/or want to come home. I have a traumatic memory from my childhood of being at someone's overnight and wanting to go home and my mom not coming and getting me. She said that if I stayed I would see that it wasn't that bad and I would learn to push through it. It didn't work at all. I continue to have issues being away from home overnight, even if my whole family is with me. I vowed long ago that my kids could always come home. Kind of silly, huh?
