The State of Today's Youth

--  If the behavior I've witnessed over the past week is "normal" for the majority of young men and women being raised in America, the future of our country is more bleak than I thought.  On two seperate accounts, my family was on the front lines of teenagers in action.  Their language was foul.  Their intentions were dishonorable.  Their temperament was disgusting.  They had no respect for authority, elders, women and children, each other or themselves.  Common courtesy appears to be an obsolete practice.

--  I guess I shouldn't limit the finger pointing to youth.  I am from South Carolina, and we all know what the governor has been up to.  Is this why young people act the way they do?  Maybe their fathers have been more concerned with the mistress?  How do you teach what you do not live?

--  Our country needs prayer.  We need God's hand to reach down and touch the lives of Americans.  We need fathers to pick up God's Word and be the spiritual leaders in the home.  We need a solid moral foundation.  We need our hearts to be turned back to the Creator.

As told on my posts, I've also seen very bad behavior in the youth - my son's "friends" (not anymore). Sad thing is - they're all homeschoolers, except for one.
My son - who is 16 - and I were discussing friends - mine and his - and he said that he has no friends that really care about spiritual things. Sad. Honestly, though, I had to agree with him. I finally gave up trying to make friends with the women in my Sunday school class because they were about an inch deep. If it didn't have to do with their kid's latest sport, they don't have anything to talk about.
Yes, we all need prayer.

Amen sister! We live right next door to a park, and we hear all sorts of nasty talk at all hours of the day and night, from the kids and the adults. Thankfully our kids haven't started repeating any of it.

BTW, there are ultrasound pics on my site if you have a chance to look (you have to log in if you want to see before Sunday afternoon.) Hee hee!

Have a great 4th!
Jennifer
PS I loved your bobcat comment on Julie's site!

Jul. 3, 2009 - Sorry...it's a novel

Oh Corey I'm so sorry for whatever happened. Yes, it is disturbing that our society has gotten to the point of where it's at. Parents don't teach manners anymore and I'm speaking of homeschoolers as well. Kids are indulged and taught they're entitled to what they want. Parents are more interested in their own selfish desires then training their children up in the way they should go. A friend and I were just speaking of this today and lamenting that it's hard work to consistently teach good behavior and keep our kids from being a part of the norm much less to try and keep "worldly" kids from chipping away at the innocence of ours. Needless to say, I'm with you!
Regarding chickens, we won't be getting any until it's cooler (September). We've had temps around the century mark as of late and I think that could be stressful on the birds as well as us. I'm hoping to get Rhode Island Reds and maybe Barred Rocks. I'm iffy on the Barred Rocks as I've heard they can be contankerous. I would like Buff Orpingtons but I'm afraid our summers would be too hot for such a large bird. Tim is wanting Sil-go-links but I'm not that fond of their looks, it's a vanity thing :-).
So two dozen a day?! My goodness girl what do you do with all those eggs? We will just start out with around a dozen in the beginning. I'm a newbie and don't want to get to overwhelmed. Okay, I'm talkin chickens and could just keep this up until my kids are grown. I'll stop.
I hope your family has a beautiful and blessed Independence Day! Julie

I think you just hit the nail on the head as to what has been bothering me lately. It is hard enough to teach and train our children without all the outside influences to make it even harder. I have even witnessed some of this disrespectful behaviour on some of the Disney shows. I will not let my boys watch them anymore.

Our country DOES need prayer! And, LOTS of it.

Innocent little angels -- NOT! We are all born sinners. It's our fallen nature. And those who don't have Christ do what they know. And until they turn to Him they will not change. I see this behavior that you've described among those who claim to be Christians. It's truly sad! I agree with you ~~ prayer is needed! Great fatherly leadership is needed! And we all need to turn to Christ! And keep turning to Him! For without Him we are nothing but a wicked sinner!

Amen to all that!!! If it weren't for a few good homeschooled kiddos, there would be absolutely no hope for the future generation. lol

Agreed. Not that I necessarily think it is "typical" but it is accepted and that is bad enough. Where is the outcry?

Corey,
Our country (especially health care) has been on my heart lately. I'm scared about what the next 4 years of administration is going to do. I pray for God's protection over us. I pray for less government regulation, I pray for God to pour his grace on our country and for our nation to turn towards him.
