Neat Handwriting
|
My friend in Alaska's kids sent our kids some letters and I had to realize how lacking my kids' "handwriting neatness skills" are . I hope it is not too late to improve their handwriting, but I am really going to work on it for the rest of the school year. Unfortunately, I accepted papers with barely legible handwriting from my kids, and was just glad that they did something. Not Anymore!!!!!!!
From now on I hereby declare that if their papers are not neat, then they will not be acceptable and will have to be done over.!!!!!!!! How's that. Now I feel better............

My children were getting pretty lazy in their penmanship here too, so I pulled out the BIG GUNS! The red pen! Now when they turn in a paper (other than a journal page) everything that is not great will get a mark. I'm actually amazed at how the fear of the red pen has made them take their time and (sometimes) write neatly.

I have heard, although I have not tried it, that calligraphy training can help improve regular handwriting. Maybe they can try calligraphy as an art project, to see if the skills transfer to their regular writing. Also, it would not seem as if you are re-training them, but it would seem like they are doing something new. Hope that helps.
