Because of the Chinese belief that 8 is the luckiest number for wealth and prosperity, Chinese officials scheduled the 2008 Olympic Games to begin precisely at 8:08 a.m. on 8/8/08. Eight is considered the luckiest of all other symbols and numbers because it rhymes with the Mandarin word for wealth. Other lucky numbers include 6 - prosperity, and 9 - longevity.
In addition to the luck associated with the number 8 in the Chinese culture, eight is 8 is the number of “building” in numerology. Furthermore, eight turned sideways is the symbol for infinity - forever. Therefore, many lovers have chosen this special date to celebrate their weddings.
