Whispering Pines

Happy Birthday!

It was 5:05 p.m. on April 16, 1984 that our family welcomed a brand new beautiful baby girl into the world!  What an exciting and exhausting time it was as we waited upon our first born child to arrive!  The anxious feelings of the unknown (are these pains and contractions the real thing?) drove us to pray and seek God for guidance and strength. We were poor materially, but we were rich spiritually.  The excitement of bringing life into the world, and becoming a parent is an experience that really cannot adequately be put into words.   It is an experience that we were to repeat 5 more times, and with each time we were to gain more warm memories that will be cherished and are re-visited often in memory.

As I reflect upon that day 23 years ago, I am taken back to a day that will forever be engraved in my heart, and I wonder where has the time gone?  I remember a curly-haired little girl that sat upon my lap and loved to be read to, who used to do cartwheels and round-offs like it was second nature, and who helped us plant 800 seedlings on our land.  The young girl I  shared a paper route with, taught school to, did AWANA with and who used to play "VBS" with her brothers just recently graduated from college and is now making a life for herself.  Someday, she will likely marry, and the cycle of life will continue (if the Lord tarries).

But since that day,  I will always remain a parent.  Whether she is young or old, till my dying day and as long as I have my being, I will always be concerned about her welfare, always be praying for her and will always look forward to a visit, phone call or email from her.  Moms are like that you know--always the one person who is always interested in you and how you're doing no matter how old you get.  You can bank on that.

I cherish  the time that God allowed  my daughter and I to be together.  There's nothing more special than spending the days with your children
.  How privileged I have been to be able to cradle that new baby girl in my arms and watch her grow into a woman.
