Whispering Pines

First Camping Trip and Celebrating Another Birthday

We completed our first camping trip of the season this past weekend at one of our local state parks.  It was a great time.  The weather, although a bit soggy at times, was for the most part very nice--not too hot, and not too cold.  We did the usual things: fishing, hiking, cooking hot dogs and making s'mores.  We also managed to play a few "games" of tennis with the boys (yes, this particular park had tennis courts).  Of course, the most special thing of all was celebrating our youngest son's 8th birthday!  His Grandma and Grandpa came, and we grilled out and had cake and ice cream--it was a lot of fun!

Can 'my baby' really be THAT old?  Just seems like yesterday we brought him home from the hospital.  Sometimes, I really don't like how quickly the time is going by!  But time marches on and stands still for no one.  That beautiful dark haired little boy is growing up right before my very eyes, and what a blessing he is to our family.  He's full of spunk and vigor and he keeps me thinking young even though my body is saying something else!  He's full of questions and wonder and everything is new and fresh to him.  He takes nothing for granted.  He loves to stop and smell the flowers and enjoy the beauty of God's creation.  He's strong-willed and always talking, just like his big sister.  But through him, God is constantly  showing me how precious these years are, and not to "sweat the small stuff".   So for now, I'm just going to hop on and enjoy the ride!
