Bee Season '08

Yes, I am still alive. Things never slowed down after bee season and that is why I am late. (Plus I've been writing a story for NaNoWriMo, and, you'll never guess, we were invited to a historical ball so I am working on a ball gown!!!)
Since I assume that you know what bee Season is about (if not, just go to www.freeyellowjacketremoval.com), I won't bother explaining, I will just post pictures! :-)

Know what this is?
It's a hose that is catching theseNo, not my dad or the van, the little yellowjackets in that canister!

I set up and collected my first white faced hornet's nest this year(Sorry about the reflection on my glasses) It's funny... I knew exactly what to do, but when you stand there and all these enormous (notice that when it's my dad they are tiny and when it's me they are enormous) white faced hornets come storming out to getcha, it's still nerve wracking!

Tired of bee pictures yet? No? Well then, here is a picture of the paper bag containing a white faced hornet's nest  (that deck is right outside of my and Amy's bedroom... we keep getting bees in our bedroom in the summer time - but we haven't been able to figure out why...)
Want a closer look?Yes, those little buggers actually started building paper on the outside of the bag!

And if there is one thing you learn from being around yellowjackets and hornets all the time, it is that you can't assume that anything is safe. (Yeah, I know the picture is sideways, our photobucket account isn't working well)Looks calm and peaceful, right? But take a closer look at that planter and bird houseYes indeed, both are infested with nasty little stinging critters! (Look closely and you can see their yellow heads peeking out as one of them flies towards the camera!)

Ok, I will take pity on you now and stop showing bugs... At the end of September was Josiah's 13th b-day! (Wow, can you believe he's 13? well, you probably can, but it is hard for ME to believe!)
But you know, most of my pictures of his birthday look like this
And again (yes, this is a different picture
And though this might look like a calm and safe crowd (for the most part)
It's really quite weirdSee what I mean? (He's holding a dart gun in his other hand and stalking Josiah)

Here is my Grandma P.

Ok, enough pictures of that... either later that week or earlier that week... we went to White Memorial again. (I had just gotten a new dress the day before so I HAD to have Mom take a picture of it) It kind of reminds me of the dresses in the Sound of Music in a way... (yes, I know... fascinating!)

Josiah and Amy looking over the bridge
Adventurer Joe leading the way (equipped with a very large, new pocket knife I might add)
And if one must lead others must follow (Yes, that is Kay and Amy... Kay is getting to be so grown up!)

A cool picture I took (at least I think it's cool)
Family picture (Excluding me, as I am taking the picture)
And then one excluding Josiah, with me in the picture.
And that's about it for now! :-)

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!

Well, we got bad news from the doctor about Little One.  He is backed-up again.  We have to start him on Miralax today!  We have to give him a full cap of the MIralax, 3 times today and have to continue this for like three days.  Please, please pray for him if you get a chance.  Like I said in my last post, we have been through this before and the last time he ended up in the hospital with a tube up his nose which is very painful. I REALLY pray that this does not end up the same way!!!!

Little One completed a couple more pages in his picture book notebook.  The two books that he did were Wombat Stew and Finding Home, both were set in Australia and were about Australian animals.  Here are the pages:

Please Pray for Little One

*sigh* I really feel like I ask for WAY more than my share of prayers here.  Little One has been complaining of these very vague tummy aches for a few months now.  His doctor had already tried switching his Reflux medicine to see if it helped and it did not, so the doctor has ordered x-rays.  If you have been reading this blog for a long time, you may remember we have already battled a bowel back-up once that resulted in Little One in the hospital with a tube up his nose.  I REALLY PRAY he doesn't go through that again!!!!!  It was HORRIBLE!!!!!  The last time, we tried 4 clean outs at home (which were horrible enough!) before he got hospitalized.  I REALLY pray it is not a bowel back-up.   Please, if you think about it, please pray for the little guy that he doesn't have to endure this again and please pray that there is nothing really wrong or that it is something that can be overcome easily without a lot of pain to the little guy.  He has already gone through enough in his life!  Thank you in advance.  I'll update as soon as I know something.

Homeschool Memoirs- Favorite Field Trip

Photobucket

"This week I’d like to invite you to share your favorite field-trip that you’ve been able to go on since you’ve started homeschool. I’d encourage you to include photos, but you don’t have to."

Wow!  This is more difficult than it sounds.  I really don't have a favorite.  We have done so many cool things since we have started homeschooling.  That is one of the awesome things about homeschooling is your children have the ability to go on soooo many more fiend trips than in public school if you want them to.  Let's see so far (over the years) we have toured a do-nut factory, a tv station, a bakery, a fire museum, a police station,  several farms, the zoo (twice), the aquarium, an airplane (and got to sit in the cockpit!!!), the Air Force Museum (several times), a living pioneer musuem, a nature reserve, made pizza in a pizza restaurant, gone to a butterfly house, the theatre to see plays (several),  watched maple syrup being made, handled several reptiles and more that I can't think of right now.  Each field trip was an unique learning experince that I am thankful that my children had.  Here are some pictures of some of the field trips we have done in the last year and a half.

Picture Book Interactive Notebook

Something new that I am doing with Little One is an interactive notebook for the picture books that we are reading.  So far we have 3 picture books done.  They are How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World, Apples to Oregon, and Stellaluna.  A lot of the stuff that we have put in the notebook come from Homeschool Share and Enchanted Learning.  Doing a notebook on the picture book helps us dig deeper into the story and learn more about the things they talk about, such as learning about the different countries in How to Make an Apple Pie or about bats and owls in Stellaluna.  By keeping a notebook, it gives Little One something he can go back and look at to remember the story better.  It also gives a keepsake of his work.  We used a spiral ringed scrapbook (that has thick, white paper in it) that I got from Hobby Lobby.  I got them when they were 50% off, so they were just a little over $3.50 a piece.  Here are some pictures.  If you want to see any of them more closely, just click on the picture and it will freeze and enlarge.

A few weeks ago, Little One got to participate in homeschool day at the Air Force Museum.  He had a lot of fun and we ran into some people we knew.  It was really amazing how many homeschoolers were there.  I took some pictures, unfortunately a lot of them did not turn out since the museum is dark and huge, but I still have a few to share.

I hope you have a great weekend!

Scrapbook For Artist Study

This year I am trying harder in incorporating artist studies.  We are starting with a few of Vincent van Gogh's paintings.  We are putting together a scrapbook to help remember what we study.  So far we have studied "Sunflowers".  Here are pictures from our first scrapbook pages:

1. Little One drew a picture of  "Sunflowers".  This was added to the scrapbook.
2. We added a copy of the real "Sunflowers".  This could be an art print, cut from a book, a postcard, ect.  We got ours from the back of a calender where they had some smaller pictures of what was in the calendar.
3.  We added a short "report".  I had to help Little One since he is still at the beginning of reading and writing.
4. I put a title on the page so we can remember the name, the artist and the year it was painted.

If you need to see any of the pictures clearer, just click on the picture in the slide show and it should show up bigger and freeze.

Oh, and I should add, I used a 12x12 scrapbook for this.  I picked mine up from Dollar Tree for a $1 and the pages were also from the Dollar Tree.  It's not fancy, but it does have a "classic" look to it.  It works for what we need it to!

Weekend Update and Blogger Friend School

Well, Hubby is back at work and Little One and I are adjusting to him not being here again.  We had a wonderful weekend.  First, on Friday morning we went to a theater production of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe that was put on for children.  It was cute and well done for the price ($4.75 a person!!! )  The cast consisted of only five adults.  It was interesting seeing these 5 adults pull off a show that has a lot of characters and the main characters are kids!!!  It was halarious at times. Little One did not realize the children were played by adults!!!! I was cracking up when I explained that one to him!!!  The funniest part was when the White Witch was killed she slid down the "wall" (it almost looked like she was melting!) and out of her costume and out she popped as Susan.  I know it sounds corny describing it, but like I said for the price we paid for the tickets, they really did do a good job and Little One loved it and that was the whole point!  Friday evening we took Little One to a farm for a church thing for the little kids.  It was awesome!  It was pretty chilly that night, but that's ok because we got to roast hotdogs and marshmellows over the fire!!!! YUM! YUM! YUM! Little One also got to see turkeys, bunnies and goats while there.  The goats were in a pen that was under a place set.  It was really cool.  Here are some pictures:

On Saturday,  Hubby had a lot of yard work still to do like taking down a dead tree.  On Sunday, we left church early to go to our nephew's birthday party which was at a park.  It was a really nice day, but a bit chilly.  We then left Little One with his grandma and grandpa (Hubby's dad and step mom) so we could go on a date.  We went to see the movie Fireproof and LOVED it!!!!   It was a really awesome movie.  It was a lot funnier than I expected and yes, it was pretty intense at times.  The Gospel really came through in this movie.  Just a little tidbit that I learned about it.  At the end there is a scene where the husband and wife kiss, well I read that they flew Kirk Cameron's real wife in, so she could do that scene with Kirk Cameron instead of with the actress that was portraying his wife.  That bumped my opinion of Kirk Cameron up even more!!!!

After the movie, we went Red Lobster (we had a gift card!) and finished off our enjoyable week.

Blogger Friend School-

Assignment: Tell us all about how your have “your” relaxing time, more especially how during the cooler months you take time to curl up with your favorite movie, book, Bible study, and what your favorite warm drink would be.

Ok, my favorite place would be on my comfy couch, under my thick comforter, drinking creamy coffee, reading a book or watching a movie with Hubby or as a family.  lol!!! But, I rarely get to do all of them together.

My favorite verse:

I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me. Philippians 4:13

I hope you all have a great week!
