An Old Fashioned Girl

Nov. 13, 2007 - Philippians 4:13

This morning I was really struggling with my schoolwork. I prayed to the Lord and asked him to help me with this. Then I got out my Bible and turned to PHILIPPIANS 4:13 which said: "I can do all things through Christ..."             I can't tell you all what a feeling of peace flooded my heart as I read that verse. It was incredible! So just please, if you are struggling with something, just give it up to God and he will help you!

         Truly,

Sep. 12, 2007 - How Long Is...?

"How long is a year?" Micah asked.

   ''12 months'', I responded

   ''How long is a month?''

    ''4 weeks''.

    ''How long is a week?''

     ''7 days.''

    ''How long is a day?''

    ''24 hours.''

    ''How long is an hour?''

    ''60 minutes.''

    ''How long is a minute?''

     ''60 seconds''.

I was kind of afraid that he'd ask how long is a second, but he didn't. Whew!

Ah! The curiosity of 4 year olds!

Jul. 28, 2007 - They Are EXCELLENT!!!

Here I am again! (I've said that a lot, haven't I?) This time with a post on 3 excellent books that I'd like to encourage you to read. They are by Louisa May Alcott. I know many of you have read "Little Women," An Old-Fashioned Girl (Puffin Classics)but these are just as wonderfull!Eight Cousins (Puffin Classics)You can get them at www.amazon.com

Rose in Bloom (Puffin Classics)They are wonderfull! You will find the same charm and loving characteristics in these books as you find in L.W. "Rose In Bloom" is the sequel to "Eight Cousins", while "An Old-Fashioned Girl" (hence the name of my blog) has no connection to the two.

Note: Don't be fooled by the cover of ''Rose In Bloom.'' The two men beside her are her uncle and cousin.

Jul. 11, 2007 - Whoa!

Mant American girls and ladies around the world try to do what they call, "making themselves look pretty." To accomplish this, they put on alot of lipstick and makeup. (which isn't strictly nessescary)

Well, here is an interesting fact:

"The average lady, in her life-span swallows about 15 pounds of lipstick!"

Whoa! That a LOT!!! Or should I say a LOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jun. 25, 2007 - Hair (In The Bible)

Out of curiosity, I looked up hair in the concordence. One of the verses I found in the Bible was this: But if a woman

have long hair be it a GLORY to her... I Corinthians 11 :15 (emphasis added) I was a little suprised. Does God mean that it's wrong to have short hair? I read a couple of verses before the verse mentioned above. In verse 14 here's what I found: ... If a man have long hair be it a shame unto him...  God is saying that it's a good thing for a lady to have long, feminine, glossy hair. NOT a man.

That's great isn't it? The bad news is that many people even christians aren't following this. Men are having long hair and girls have short hair. I admit short hair is a convinience once in a while when your hair gets too long. But long hair in my opinion is very nice as well.

Feel free to leave a comment and give me your opinion!

Jun. 22, 2007 - Sew Behind!

Yikes! I'm sooo behind in sewing! I'd take fits where I'd sew 3 or 4 skirts in a few days.  And then I wouldn't sew for a while.

I just realised that I needed to start making some more skirts when I saw that the skirts that I'd made were getting a little too small. I just got a sewing machine and some new patterns, so I'm going to start soon. I really love to sew, and I love making clothes for myself. I'll probably post pics, so keep your eyes open!

Jun. 19, 2007 - Being Reserved For 1 (Purity)

I've been reading "Before You Meet Prince Charming" by Sarah Mally and this book has really been speaking to my heart. I've enjoyed reading it very much. I'd advise every christian young lady to read this book.

One chapter spoke about being reserved for one, (your future husband). Here are a few 1st things that you can share with your future husband instead of with 'someone else'.

1st exppression of interest

1st words of affection or love

1st gift given/recieved

1st romantic look into his eyes

1st trip together

1st special song, place, event, or memory

1st ring

1st dinner date

1st personal letter exppresing emotions

1st "I Love You"

1st piece of heart given

1st serious of ongoing correspondence with a young man

1st special affectionate nicknames or actions

1st kiss

...here are a few of my own:

1st caress

1st hug

1st love letter

1st long personal tak together

Just a few small, little, things that can spoil purity. I personally shall save my firsts for my husband. I shall also save my first kiss for my wedding day. I think it will be really special to do it then.

May. 30, 2007 - Molly--Pitcher?!?

First of all I would like to start by saying "Thankyou" to mandygrace for telling me the name of this font, so that I could use it on my blog. It really is a very nice one!
Now most of you have probably heard of Molly Pitcher. And even if you haven't, you probably have heard the name mentioned before. But did you know that 'Pitcher' wasn't really her last name? It isn't. Her maiden name (before she married) was Ludwig, but no one actually knows what her last name was after she married.
So how did she get the name "Pitcher," you ask? Well, her husband was fighting in one of the battles against the British, and the battlefield waqsn't far from the pump from which she drew water. So because her husband managed the canon, she decided to climb up on the hill to see if she could spot him out in the valley. Many men were dying in the fields, thinking quickly she filled her pitcher with water and rushed over to one of the young men dying on the battlefield. She gave him some water and then the next person till her jug was empty. The men dying on the ground, called to her: Molly ....Pitcher... Molly Pitcher! Till the other men thought her last name was Pitcher. So when the general called her to him and asked who she was, one of the soilders said: "Her name is Molly Pitcher sir, a fitting name too."
I laughed when I heard/read this. It was a fitting name!
