Jan. 6, 2008 - Marriage: How great is your marriage?
Marriage!
Is your marriage good? Do you and your spouse value your time together? We do here at my house. We value our time together so much that we are trying to get me home full time so I can be with my husband in the evening along with my children. I am currently working for my church 5 nights a week plus every other weekend.
The reason marriage is on my mind today is: This week a co-worker told me her husband is going on a mission trip. I replied to how sad that she will be alone. She laughed and said I am looking forward to it!! I was puzzled by this reply. She saw my look and said oh we do not get along. I was floored. Are marriages at sake in this country? Why did this gal get married? What is the bottom of her and husband's problem? How sad!! If my husband was going to be away from me for one week I wouldn't be able to bear it. We are really great friends. Military families: I really applaud your sacrifices of your spouses fighting for our (and yours) freedom. It must be very hard on you to have your spouse to be gone for such a long time. I hope this is the case. Anyway I feel sad for this gal as she doesn't know what marriage is supposed to be.
Let's take this moment and comment about how great your marriage is. Bless your spouse this week with something out of the ordinary to surprise them and tell them how much you love them!!
Bessings-

Jan. 6, 2008 - New Year Resolutions!!
Hello !!
New Year Resolutions!! I really do think New Year Resolutions are useless. We can have resolutions at any time of the year. Just have to do it especially when you are ready to do so. In tradition in this country, I will list my resolutions here right now.
1) Get up early every morning and send my husband off to work with lunch and a kiss bye.
2) Continue to bless my husband.
3) Keep my marriage great.
4) Get up early to be with God.
5) Exercise to loose weight and be in better shape to chase my kids.
6) Get serious about my knee recovery
7) Come home full time (I work in the evenings 5 days a week with the exception of every other weekend)
8) Organize my home much better and streamline system of keeping home organized and clean.
9) Cut food budget in half so I can come home and possibly get busy in starting business(who knows what that will be?)
10) Lastly, post on my blog at least 3 times a week (ha ha sorry guys I haven't been doing a very good job at this)
Anybody posting New Year resolutions on their blog??
Blessings~

Aug. 13, 2007 - Starting school this week
Hello
I am back!! Hopefully I will be here more often to report what we are doing in school. My dh has been checking on my blog and has reported to me that I am neglecting my blog. ha ha (waving to hubby)
We had our first official school day here today however it didn't go so well since we had to go into town to get the oil change in the van which was long overdue.
Oldest child did math and science today. We started Apologia General Science today which was a bit of struggle as I am not used to that type of science as we have been doing WTM way of science. We use Saxon math for this child.
Middle child: He worked on his story and flashcards. He also worked on his piano.
Youngest child: We worked on her character a bit today. She also helped me get stuff out to tent for Garage Sale.
I mentioned Garage Sale. Yep, we are having a Garage Sale this weekend which is something I will not do again during the 1st week of school. I will be glad when it is over. Because of the garage sale, we will be doing very light school such as science, math and piano. Next week we will be doing full swing of school.
It is good to be back here at homeschool blogger community.

Sep. 8, 2006 - Frugal Friday by Biblical Womanhood....my tip on books
I thought I would participate in this. Here is my tip:
Use your library as much as possible. If you have a book that you want to buy check your library to see if they have it. Read the book and take notes, save money!! Also if it is something you want to have in your home library you can get it on ebay or amazon in the marketplace. I bought my dh a book through that route (amazon marketplace) and it only cost me $4.90. The book was regular priced at $19.95. It was for sale in the Amazon Marketplace for .99 cents and then there was shipping on top of that. What a deal!! I made my dh proud.
I am going to attempt to put the logo on here from Crystal. Well that didn't work. I will just post the link to her blog. http://www.biblicalwomanhood.com/blog.htm

Aug. 31, 2006 - I am still here...
I was having problems with my password. So I just gave up for a while because I have been very busy with working part time at nights, homeschooling and being a homemaker.
Also I lost my entry to Saljoy on my homeschooling so I will go ahead and give that a try again.
Anyway I am still here but my postings will be minimal until I get my house in order and organized.
Blessings~

May. 16, 2006 - Sajolley asked questions on her blog....I am answering them here
Here are her questions which she posted on her blog True Stories
Okay, here's a question for all you homeschool families. How do you do it?
*****I have no idea how I do it. I homeschool with a Well Trained Mind overview. Starting this June I will be changing things a bit but still will consider myself to be a Christian Classical educator. I will be using Tapestry of Grace as my core curriculam. I will explain in the next post what I use and how I use them.****
Do you have a set schedule?
*****Schedule- well it really depends but I prefer to call them routines. There are things that need to happen every day but no set time for it (well yes we do but not in 15 or 30 min increment. It is more like there are things that need to be done before breakfast, noon, and supper. With another child added this July I will have to probably put everybody on a routine with paper to keep myself sane. *****
Do you fly by the seat of your pants?
*****No I couldn't fly by the seat of my pants. I did it and I was miserable!!!! I like having order and structure but preferably call them routines. Now I know we do math 5 days a week but I do not assign lessons to be done on each day. If a child failed to understand the lesson on that day then we touch on it again the next day. We are now doing things differently such as having 1-2 subject days meaning we concentrate on math for one day but we do have drill and meeting everyday. I will give my schedule tomorrow. ****
Do you have children whose learning styles are dramatically different from each others or your own?
****Yes I do. They are also very different in their temperment and effort. I have one child that is not motivated easily. The other child is very motivated by nothing, just having his school work done professionally is his motivation. My 3rd child has severe learning disabilities with Autism. It is because of her that I will need to have each child's routine on paper this July. My learning style is a different than my oldest. I have two visual children and I am a visual learner. My oldest is auditory just like his daddy. However my middle son is a perfectionist so he is motivated to do his work well.****
Do you plan out your year?
***It depends on what you are talking about. Here is my take: I plan my days off or vacation by using a calendar. I do not plan my math by dividing up the lessons. We do it day by day basis or in our case weekly basis. I do plan out my history, science, reading, Latin, Logic and US Geography for the year. This is planned loosely though. Now with using TOG soon History is basically planned out for me. I plan weekly with the basic 3 r's (math, language arts, and reading
Do you take one day at a time?
*** For the basics I do. Everything else is planned yearly. Math, Language Arts and reading are very important skills my children need to learn. So I evaluate daily or weekly. If one child is stuck on something in writing or grammar then we stop and study that until he gets it. One week oldest son was stuck on diagramming in Rod and STaff. We halted all lessons that week and worked on diagramming all week. He now got it! It is worth halting the lessons until the child is getting it. That is the purpose of homeschooling. ****
Do you find joy in your teaching?
****Yes I do but not in PAPERWORK!!! I know all teachers have a gripe on paperwork. It is mindboggeling how much paperwork we can accumulate and I have only 3 children!!!! I think I would enjoy it more if my room and house was organized and things were running smoother than it is right now.*****
I'd like to hear what works for YOUR family.
****I will post tomorrow what I am using and what our routines are. I am short on time today so will post more tomorrow so check back soon.****
Blessings~

May. 15, 2006 - Unbelievable writing assignment given to students by a high school teacher
The teacher asks the kids to write an essay on who they'd like to kill. This fits our reasons for homeschooling.

May. 15, 2006 - Why we homeschool???
I thought I would blog about this question. I have been asked this over the last 5 years. I want to write them down so I can refer to them when I am feeling down about my ability to teach.
Why do we homeschool our children?
1) We homeschool because we feel this is our responsibilty. It is not the gov't responsibility to teach our children. It is ours!! Here are the scriptures we use to back this up: Deuteronomy 6:4-9, Matthew 22:21 (we use this to show that our children is given to us by God
2) We homeschool to instill independant thinking in our children instead of cookie cutter thinking. We also want our children to have a love for learning and at the same time to have a very good education that is Christian instead of Secular.
3) We homeschool our children to protect them from physical, emotional and most of Spiritual harm. There are scriptures in Proverbs that we can read about children left to themselves. Spiritual harm is what concerns us.
4) We homeschool so we can teach them things in our own time not the gov't. We will teach them about things that should only come from us.
5) We homeschool to teach them the truths.
6) We homeschool to protect them from ungodly teachings.
7) Most of we homeschool because we LOVE our children very much.
8) We homeschool to train our children to become responsible adults in the future. We are raising them to become leaders of their generations in the future. We want them to be independant of gov't help.
We homeschool for religious reasons first then academic reasons. We feel we can give our children a much better education at home and a much better spiritual education at home. We feel we can better protect them from harm here at home.
What about socialization, some would ask? Why is this a worry in most people who question why we homeschool? I am not worried about socialization. We give our children many opportunities for that in a protected environment. We have a select families that we trust. This is very few families. There is an age limit on this for us. It also depends on the child's maturity level and spiritual level. My oldest son has spent the night with two different families. My other son hasn't spent the night with anyone yet. He is not yet mature enough to go. We belong to a homeschool group where they have many opportunities to socialize with other kids (of ALL ages!!). My children are involved in activities in church. My oldest is a buddy for special needs parents night out. What a great education my oldest is getting from being a buddy. He was a buddy to two autistic children at the same time. The adults and leaders were very impressed with his ease of budding up with them. They told us that he stuck to them and didn't go off to talk to friends (he had many friends there) unlike other kids that were buddies there. I think socialization is not a problem for us. We limit and provide that as time goes on. It is funny how socialization and socialism sound alike and I feel that both go hand in hand such as what Jennifer Ig. stated in her article in the Old Schoolhouse magainze. If you haven't read it, go READ IT!!! It is a must read for all homeschool parents.
I have many more reasons but what I listed hit the nail on the head I believe. If you have reasons for homeschooling that is not listed in my article, do post your reasons in the comment section. I look forward to hearing what your reasons are!!
Blessings~

We will be in Louisville, KY. I need some really good restaurants to eat in. First part of the week we will be in the same area as South East Christian Church then we will be where Galt Hotel is in the later part of the week. We need good restaurants to eat at for dinner. Lunch is pretty much taken care of as we will be eating in most of the time for lunch (taking food down there to save on food).
Thanks!!

Apr. 7, 2006 - Do we have any Seamstress here??
It is my dream to sew clothes. I made one outfit for my dd but never finished it because I ran out of time. So if you have a sewing blog feel free to post it in the comments section. I would love to visit you!!
I am currently having trouble in figuring out the sizing because of my dd's odd measurements. Her back neck to waist length is longer (size 8 ) but everything else is supposed to be size 3. Do you know what I am talking about?? She really has a long torso and very long legs which I know I will have to adjust the skirt part of the dress pattern to make it longer.
Thanks!
