Sep. 16, 2005 - Pearl's Created to be His Helpmeet revisited

This book has caused an uproar here on this HSB and other blog hosts.  I do not agree with this book and neither do my husband.  He told me to stop reading it.  He told me to get rid of it.  He is my head so I obeyed.  However when I tell others about the book and to be (oh please!!) be careful in reading this book and keep your Bible open and see if what Debi says line up with what God says in His Word, I am told that I am running my household not my husband.  Oh that is further than the truth!!  My husband is my head.  We are both slaves and Jesus is Our Master!!  I am not my husband's slave and he is not my slave either.  We have a very close relationship as Christ loved his church.  My husband loves me as I am his best friend.  He is not lording it over me at all!!  He is my head.  I have been accused by those that love this book that I am running the household and not my dh.  That is not true.  I cry to my dh about this.  He said you know only God knows what is in your heart.  He said I am his equal and he said he is supposed to love me as Christ loved the Church.  He makes the final decision but I make the decision with him.  In our marriage we both come to an agreement on things not just him making a decision without my input or my agreement.  If we do not agree then we pray, pray and pray and talk about it.

I will not get into theological discussions about this as Spunky here at HSB did a good job of that as well as razorbackmama did too and she was very gentle about it.  Here are the links if you want to read it:

Razorbackmama     http://razorbackmama.blogspot.com

Both of these ladies did a very good job on the review.  The one thing that I ask you to do if you want to read this book is to keep open God's word next to this book.  I do not have a problem with others reading this book as long as they are reading God's word along with this book.  Razorbackmama explained it very well why we should read the Bible along with this book.  I do not recommend young brides to even read this book until they are further in their marriages.  I recommend the book by Eilzabeth George called "A Woman after God's own Heart".  Most of all I recommend the Bible over all books.  The Bible really has all the answers we need!!    AMEN!!

Blessings~

Holly

He's all about just sticking with the Word because when you rely solely on other people's word, it gets tainted by their sin nature. However I don't think we just need to censor out this book. It's not any more dangerous than anything else out there in the whole wide world. Even the most trusted Christian in Christendom needs to be checked against the Word. I just get suspicious when people want to single out someone like a quarentine.

As for me, I look for the fruit of the person or ministry like Jesus told us multiple times in His Word.

This is a 'chew and spit' type of book.
I have gotten some out of this book that has been good for me. Some of it is stuff that the Lord has already taught me through His Word... but eeewwwieee... some of the twisting of scripture in this book can make one cringe!

It's nice to *meet* you. And my hubby and I agree with you all 100% in this, considering the Created to be his Helpmate book. Truly, Spunky and Sparrow have both done a great job reviewing it...Congrats on being chosen as the random blogger of the week! Nice place you've got here, I'm glad to have found you.;)
