Persimmon Hill Academy

Jan. 18, 2006 - Hello everybody!!! THANKS so much for the comments!!

I have several updates!

I am now a contributor for the Indiana HSN here at homeschoolblogger.  So if you are from Indiana please send me your link to your blog so we can post it to the Indiana blog here at homeschoolblogger.  I will try to link it soon.  I lost all of my directions for linking here.  Aslo if you belong to a support group could you please send me basic information about your group so we can post it on the blog as well (please send me the contact person as we will need to contact them for permission to list the support group on the blogs and magazine).

My oldest boy just turned 11.  He is almost taller than me.  YIKES!!  My other son is 8.  I have to give them names here so I have decided to name the oldest Frodo and my other son who is 8 to be Sam.  My dd will be named Eowen.  I hesitate to post their real names.  Anyway both of my boys played Beginner Bible Bowl in Louisville, KY this past weekend.  They placed 6th place out of 20 teams.  They played with two other players from our church. We are well pleased by this.  I had a good time down in Kentucky.

I am currently working on scheduling this week.  I am also currently reading Christine Field's Help for the Harried Homeschool Mom.  It has been an eye opener.  It is funny that it is an eye opener because this is my 3rd time reading it.  ha ha

For Christmas, Frodo got the movie from Vision Forum called "The League of Grateful Sons".  This is a wonderful video.  This is coming from my oldest son.  They watched it while I was at work.  I heard good comments about this movie.  I am glad it was good.  This is more of a documentary than a movie.  It is a keeper in our house.  I will provide a link tonight or tomorrow once I figure out how to do it (again).

I may be taking Kris up on her offer to help me play around with the blog templates soon.  She is having a special this month. Again will provide link later so check back.

My dh got me wonderful gifts for Christmas.  He got me several shirts, two jeans that are stretchable (I am hooked as I hated jeans for a long time), and a pair of shoes (my favorite brand ECCOS).

I got him several things from Vision Forum.  I got him several movies such as Private Eyes and The Patriot.  I tried finding the Revolution movie by Al Pacino (I think) but can't find it anywhere (do you know where I can get one??).

Anyway that is the update I have so far.  I will be posting alot more so come back.

Oh and your comments are greatly appreaciated!!!  If my friend from Pennsylvania is reading my blog....Hi there!!!

Blessings~

Sep. 16, 2005 - Pearl's Created to be His Helpmeet revisited

This book has caused an uproar here on this HSB and other blog hosts.  I do not agree with this book and neither do my husband.  He told me to stop reading it.  He told me to get rid of it.  He is my head so I obeyed.  However when I tell others about the book and to be (oh please!!) be careful in reading this book and keep your Bible open and see if what Debi says line up with what God says in His Word, I am told that I am running my household not my husband.  Oh that is further than the truth!!  My husband is my head.  We are both slaves and Jesus is Our Master!!  I am not my husband's slave and he is not my slave either.  We have a very close relationship as Christ loved his church.  My husband loves me as I am his best friend.  He is not lording it over me at all!!  He is my head.  I have been accused by those that love this book that I am running the household and not my dh.  That is not true.  I cry to my dh about this.  He said you know only God knows what is in your heart.  He said I am his equal and he said he is supposed to love me as Christ loved the Church.  He makes the final decision but I make the decision with him.  In our marriage we both come to an agreement on things not just him making a decision without my input or my agreement.  If we do not agree then we pray, pray and pray and talk about it.

I will not get into theological discussions about this as Spunky here at HSB did a good job of that as well as razorbackmama did too and she was very gentle about it.  Here are the links if you want to read it:

Spunky      http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/spumkyhomeschool

Razorbackmama     http://razorbackmama.blogspot.com

Both of these ladies did a very good job on the review.  The one thing that I ask you to do if you want to read this book is to keep open God's word next to this book.  I do not have a problem with others reading this book as long as they are reading God's word along with this book.  Razorbackmama explained it very well why we should read the Bible along with this book.  I do not recommend young brides to even read this book until they are further in their marriages.  I recommend the book by Eilzabeth George called "A Woman after God's own Heart".  Most of all I recommend the Bible over all books.  The Bible really has all the answers we need!!    AMEN!!

Blessings~

Aug. 29, 2005 - Pearls, Pearls and more Pearls causing an upset here....

I like the Pearls but do not agree with some of their writings especially their latest book "Created to be his Helpmeet".  I have their 3 books (To Train up a Child, No Greater Joy book 1 and 2).  They have been a great help however I feel that I have to back off from them now that their writings have gone down a way that I do not feel is right.

The reason I am bringing this up in my blog is I wanted to point out that even though I do not agree with them and can no longer advocate for them I am still thanful that Gena Saurez and her crew allow us to post our blogs here for free.  I am also thankful for their magazine.  Yes I know they have the Pearl's advertisement in their magazine and the blogs.

Just like a newspaper they have to allow the ads come in as they are paying for it to be in the newspapers, magazine or blog.  This doesn't necessarily mean the Saurez or thier crew is in support of the Pearls.  Maybe they are but then again maybe they are not.

I am just thankful for getting to blog for free.  I am thankful that I have made several friends from this wonderful group of bloggers!!

So whether we agree with the Pearls or not, let's be thankful that we have a wonderful group of homeschoolers blogging here at HSB!!

Probably some of you are wondering why I am writing this entry.  I did a random blog in the beginning and came across a blog of a lady who posted nasty things about the blog and how she can no longer blog here at HSB all because there are advertisements of Pearls on this site and magazine.  I just want to give my thanks to the Saurez and their crew for allowing us to blog here for free.

Another thing that I am truly thankful is Spunky's review of the Pearl's latest book "Created to be his Helpmeet" and how the discussions were pretty much civil on the commenters part.  Spunky was very civil and gentle about the reviews of the Pearl's latest book.  If you haven't checked it out go to Spunky's blog and read the reviews.

THANK YOU!!!

Blessings~
