Oct. 4, 2005 - Book Recommendation: Freaks, Geeks and Asperger Syndrome

This book was written by a 13 year old boy with Autism. His name is Luke Jackson.  Tony Atwood did the foreword of this book.  I have to say that as a parent of an autistic dd, I have learned so much from this boy than I have of other professionals who wrote books about Autism.  He was very frank about Autism.  Every parent of an ASD (Autistic/Autism Spectrum Disorders) child should read this book.  He discusses everything from his family to whether to tell your child about ASD to sensory to dating and so on.  I laughed and I cried when reading this book.  I highly recommend this book especially if you have a child with ASD.  Luke Jackson also hopes all professionals who diagnose kids with ASD to read this book too.  He also wants teachers to read this book.  I agree with Luke on this.  Tony Atwood agrees too according to his Foreword.

Sep. 30, 2005 - Sign Language

We are going to be teaching our autistic dd sign language so she can communicate to us on her really bad days.  When she has a bad day she refuses to talk or in other words become non-verbal.  We have decided we are going to teach her signs.  I am looking for good sign language books especially those that have Christian signs in them such as Jesus, God, Bible and so on.  Right now she knows: No, Yes, and stop. ha ha

If you have a really good resource to recommend to me feel free to leave me a comment.

Thanks!!
