Books and the library

I was just reading a post by Chickadee about library reading lists and summer reading programs.  It got me thinking about my own love of the library.

I've always enjoyed the library.  My mom used to take us when we were little and I have some fond memories of our trips.  I've just always loved the atmosphere of a library.  I've always had a love of reading and I read every spare minute I get!  My husband thinks it's crazy that I can have 3 or 4 books going at one time!

A couple of years ago, I had a part-time job as a page (shelving books) at a library where I lived in Florida.  I got to work in the children's section and it opened my eyes to all of the wonderful children's literature that is out there.  In fact, I went through a stage where I was only reading pre-teen books!  Most were excellent and really held my attention.  I was amazed that I enjoyed them as much as the adult novels I had been reading!

I found two authors that I enjoy very much:  Patricia Reilly Giff and Lois Lowry.  Lowry's The Giver (Newberry Medal Winner) is my favorite and I'm looking forward to reading her new one, Gossamer.  I'm currently reading Giff's Willow Run and I've got the companion book Lily's Crossing (a Newberry Honor Winner) on reserve for when I'm finished.  Her Pictures of Hollis Woods (also a Newberry Honor Winner) is excellent, too!

Now I read mostly non-fiction books about homeschooling, home organization, parenting and being a Godly woman.  Now and then I slip in a good fiction book, but I like to educate myself in matters that will make my life easier!

Well, halfway through this post, the Book Mobile came so we ran down there for a minute.  Coincidence?    I found some books about removing clutter from your home, and a book about raising boys.  My son found a Dr. Seuss book and a couple others that look good.  We also got a book about chickens and one about cows.

What books are you reading?  I love a good recommendation!

Books are the best addiction to have.
My favorite author for preteen-teen is Gene Stratton Porter. I love to read her books.
