Chocolate Unit Study

Posted in Our Homeschool on Sep. 20, 2006

Let me tell you, this is a very difficult unit study to do when you are on a very strict diet!  But, my son is absolutely loving it and I have not heard him say "Are we done yet?" one time today!

We started reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl 3 days ago, so I decided to do a fun unit study while we are waiting for our FIAR books to come.  It wasn't hard to find great stuff on the web!

Here are some really fun things we found and tried out today:

The Field Museum:  Chocolate, The Exhibition

Manufacturing Chocolate From Seed to Sweet (Interactive!)

Hershey Factory Tour:  Video

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Activities

(plus vocab, quizzes, and lesson plans)

Hershey's Virtual Pumpkin Decorator

One of the activities suggested that you create your own candy bar and wrapper.  My son, who is usually full of imagination, decided that there is nothing better than a Hershey bar with almonds, so he drew that!  I couldn't get him to do anything different.  I guess he just wants to leave well enough alone!  Why try to fix something that's not broke?!

A chocolate unit study! You are a fun mom! If I ever did a unit study I would probably try and make it healthy and do one on vegetables or grain! Blah! Of course that would mean I was actually out of bed and not blogging during school time!
Oh well, someday soon!
