Thanksgiving day is coming to a close....
I must admit that I've done much of nothing today, and it felt really good!

I DIDN'T cook Thanksgiving dinner....

I never do.  My kitchen is way too little for cooking a big dinner for family, and we don't have enough room for everyone to sit anyway.  We usually go to my in-laws or my parents for Thanksgiving.  These last two years have been a little different though.  MIL asked if we wanted her to cook or if we wanted to go out.  No one really had an opinion, so I said that she should do whatever was easiest for her.  She decided that it cost just as much for her to purchase and prepare food as it did for us to go out so guess what....?

We went out!  We ate our Thanksgiving meal at the local Cracker Barrel and we didn't have to cook or clean up the mess!  Yahoo!  That sure was easy.  A very nice lady served us and took care of all of our needs and I enjoyed every minute of it.  MIL gave her a very generous tip for her courteousness and prompt service, and she even gave my dh a good natured "hard time" in the process (which was priceless).  He's very good natured and enjoyed every minute of it.  We saw someone from church, and some friends we haven't seen in a very long time.  It was nice to get to visit with them as we were leaving and they were coming in.

I know that a lot of folks just cannot fathom not having a big family meal at someone's house.  They may say "What about all the memories you are missing out on making?"  My reply would be that we haven't missed a thing.  We made memories today by being with family, talking and enjoying our meal together, and no one was too tuckered out to have a good time.  We can make memories wherever we are, its all about the perspective we have when we do it.

I pray your Thanksgiving day was spent with family and/or friends, and that you have enjoyed your day as much as I enjoyed mine.

Blessings to you and your families, and come back to see me!
Missy

Hi Missy, thanks for stopping by my blog. It's good to be blogging again. It's been too long since we've been to Cracker Barrel. I love the country look and feel to the place not to mention all of the nostalgia! Sounds like you had super day!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
Love, Cathy

Nov. 23, 2007 - Hello, my new friend!

We went through this transition at one point in our family, too, as the usual cooks got older and none of our younger generation had stepped up to the plate. There was a tremendous uproar as a smaller portion of us went out and the others chose not to come, but it was a sign of things to come for the next generation.

This year, we, too, had a different experience--no visitors. We normally connect with my husband's very small family (I'm not from this area), but this year his sister took her family to Disneyworld. I think my mother-in-law was in mild depression and so chose not to go anywhere, but instead to sit at home and relax. We bought a huge turkey only for the two of us, and neither of us are turkey eaters--we buy out of tradition. I told my husband that, had we known no one would come over, we could have had spaghetti or tamales and called it a day!

I'm glad you enjoyed. God bless.

Hey, Cracker Barrel sounds great to me. Thanksgiving isn't just about the what and the where--but the WHO--thanking Jesus with our family. And CB's mac and cheese doesn't hurt my thankful spirit, either!
