My Little Corner of the World

Dec. 29, 2006 - A Funny Thing Happened....

When my mother in law and brother in law dropped in on their way to OK I decided a light lunch of sub sandwiches with chips, dips and the cookies and other Christmas treats I had already prepared was just the thing. While I was fixing the table my son got up and grabbed a plate. I told him he could wait for the rest of the family to eat and that I only needed to fix the queso for lunch would be ready. While I was in the kitchen finishing up the queso he came in to throw his plate away and commented that it was good.

HE HAD EATEN ANYWAY!!!!!!!

I was so scared I would kill this child that had eaten in front of guests before the table was even through being set I sent him to the nearest room alone until I could calm down. I would like to add that both his Dad and Uncle then felt the need to peek in and laugh at him and suggest that perhaps he should listen to his mother. (His excuse was that he didn't hear me say he should wait. His hearing has been an on going problem here lately.) I finally did let him out of the room under one condition. He would be allowed to live only if he stopped his selective hearing otherwise he was back on death row.

In the meantime as everyone was around the table set buffet style Emily got in the middle of everyone. Her Daddy told her to go sit down and we would fix her plate to which she replied… “No". I spun around flaming mad. Glaring at Cecil I announced, "I hope you don't like being a father because I'm about to kill your chillin's!!!!" My BIL got so tickled he had to leave the room.

So, MIL has her plate, BIL has his, Em has hers, as I mentioned Bran had already eaten, Cecil and I are fixing our plates when I turn around and notice my MIL and BIL are just sitting there not touching their food. We had already blessed the food so I asked if they needed anything else. And my MIL replied something to the effect of... "Well, no I'm fine, I just hear that around here eating before the rest of the family could result in a death sentence!" Apparently she can hear just fine!!! Now if only my children were afraid of me too! ROFLOL

So, did anything funny happen at your family holiday gathering?

That is hysterical! I love your mil response. I have one who would have done the same thing. Not an ounce of common sense. Thinks I have to tell him everything. Doesn't matter that's how it's been done his whole life....Arghhhhhh

That is totally funny! Well, not the selective hearing on the part of your children but your in-law's not touching their plates yet. :-)

I'll have to remember the death row part... The kids will know what I'm talking about. We had a little discussion on it the other day when we were driving though Huntsville!

I hope you have a fantastic Sunday!

Love,
Marsha
