a new pet in the house!

Posted in Fun stuff

Okay so this is not the expensive kind. Not like cats, dogs, etc. We were outside picking black raspberries around our yard when I found this adorable little caterpillar stuck in a web. It was moving around just fine. Maybe it just walked into it? I don't know, but I do know God's timing is perfect, and He cares for the little caterpillars. And He also knows I'm a stinker for rescuing them or at least keeping them as pets. They're fairly easy to care for: find a jar that's about to be recycled, collect some leaves and maybe a small branch. Make sure you have a good cover for the jar that you can put holes in but not too big so the caterpillar can't get out. (I hope it doesn't!)  And watch it closely because they are good little escape artists.

We gave it a raspberry - I don't know if caterpillars eat them but it sure can't hurt! Raspberries are good for pregnant women, they can't be harmful to baby caterpillars..

Oh yeah, the name. Since we found it in a web, we felt the perfect name would be: Charlotte!

Dh is not amused, nor did he even laugh. He was in his office and kicked me out when I told him the name. For those who don't understand, remember the story, Charlotte's Web? Charlotte was the spider. This little one got rescued from a spider. And that spider's gonna be pretty mad at us tonight!

I just hope this one doesn't die, like the last one. We thought it was hibernating for the winter! Oh well. At least it won't die a terrifying death, in the hands of an icky bug anyway..
