Sep. 17, 2007 - Sewing Memories
Sara and Joshua had rehearsal tonight for "Peter Pan". Rehearsal is almost every night, now. It's a little hard with my work schedule but we are making it work.
Sara is helping me sew the costumes. Joshua's is pretty easy. I will have to spend several hours on Sara's pirate's vest because it has grommets, boning and is fully lined. It is sooooo nice to have my sewing machine back!!! It is the best machine and even after being in storage for nearly 4 years it still runs smoothly!
It feels kinda weird to be using it in the RV. I sit down to sew and I feel like I am back at my teak dining room table in my house in Maryland looking at the Chesapeake Bay as I sew. There is so much history in the machine!
I began to think about all I have sewn on it and realized it has literally stitched my life's story! Richard bought it for me when we became engaged 19 years ago. The first thing I sewed on it were curtains for his house. After we were married I sewed most of my maternity clothes and all the items for the nursery ( curtains, crib bumpers and dust ruffle, etc). Of course, I made a beautiful Christening gown and I made my girlfriend's wedding dress! When I think of all the Halloween costumes and Christmas I have created and sewn!
And now we are into theatre! I love costume design! It is so much fun designing a costume and then sewing it into creation. Here are photos of Sara and Joshua in the costumes I made for them for the "Wizard of Oz" play.

Sharla is on the left and Sara is on the right (with the white apron)
I was pretty tired of the color emerald green by the time I finished sewing the dress!
Here is Joshua as one of the Munchkins. His was easy to make!
I will be sure to post photos from "Peter Pan" when the play is over.
I guess that's it for now.......
