Sep. 21, 2007 - Newspapers

Well, we had a wonderful field trip with our homeschool group last week!  We went to the South East Missourian Newspaper for a tour of the facilities and a learned how a paper is published.  You can see photos at this link: Pictures of Field Trip

The photos show our group[ at the plant and then at the park.  Joshua is in the green shirt with black sleeves and Sara in in the grey shirt.  We had a lovely picnic and the kids put together their own paper.  Every student brought a piece to include in the paper.  My children each wrote a poem and I am very impressed by their writing abilities.

Here are the poems:

Fairy Wings

She sat among the tree tops,
Silver moonlight on her face.
Her skin bejeweled with diamond dew;
her dress of spider lace.

So fragile and so elegant
her crown of baby's breath
entwined and glowing in her hair,
she mourned the moonlights death.

Once known to all then pushed aside
upon adulthood's dawning,
she sat in silence all alone
and listened to echoes calling.

Memories of simplicity
rode in among the breeze
as she watched their faces turn away
for they no longer 'just believed'.

So among the ample landscapes
of growing up and childish dreams
she carried the end of innocence
on her forgotten fairy wings.

Patriotic Songs

Patriotic songs do ring,
Songs we shall not stop singing.
For this is our land-a land that is free,
And I am proud as I shall ever be.

Stars shining bright,
Red, white and blue.
The nation is celebrating,
And it's all for you.

Happy Birthday, America,
I love you.
Happy Birthday, America,
Our pledge to you is true.
