Homeschooling can give a family creativity and even originality... even gives us mom's a bit of unique abilities to "come up with something" last minute - don't you think??? Let me explain, being a family who does not celebrate Halloween, but loves candy, we suddenly found ourselves with a situation! Finding an appropriate costume! Yes, the children's Awana's club hosted a Costume Fall Party. My children usually don't turn a blind eye to things like this because they really don't care much about dressing up - too embarrassed (must be a homeschool thing. lol). However, any party that offers a FREE candy... well, count my kids there!
Anyway, get this... Five minutes before we were to leave, my youngest son decided he wanted to wear a costume! Not an "official" one, but something that would show the need of the world and win him some extra candy! My husband and I talked about it (real quick) and decided that we could dress him up like a Shepard? Noah? Samson??? However, my son decided he wanted to represent a homeless person who needed Jesus. So, on went his brothers too-big pants, a junky shirt... a stick sign that read "Will Work For Food" and a pile of dirt on his cheeks! Nothing too crazy... but enough to give him a boost in the right direction!
Then, as last minute as it could be, my son grabbed his Bible on his way out and said that he FOUND Jesus! So, he was now going as a homeless person who just found Jesus!
He didn't win any BIG prize or "best costume" award... but one thing for sure...
