How about your neighborhood??? The schools around here took "Martin Luther King's" birthday off last week - a week early. Tomorrow the schools are taking "Teacher In Service" off and on Friday, the schools are having "early day out". Wow. So many day's off... shoot! Why not take the whole week off??? I mean, can a child really sit in a classroom for 8 hours and have adequate learning with so many days off in one week? (opps! I'm getting a little out spoken here)
Well, I got to thinking (that always gets me in trouble)... since this neighborhood is taking a day off here and a day off there from school for reasons that I don't quite understand, I thought I would create our own special day and celebrate it by only doing core subjects this morning and ending our day early. What is the day called? How about " Mom In Service" day. After all, I'm a mom... and I'm in service 24/7. In fact, I have lots of service-able things to do today (laundry, dishes, cat boxes, floors...etc). It would be great to do it without having to run to the kitchen table to break up debates or answer a math question.
