The best part of living close to my parents is the ability to pick up the phone and meet them at the park on a whim. This past week, however my father beat us to that call and arranged to meet us at a lake. What fun! The kids brought their scooters and I brought the stroller.
My dad is full of adventure. He can take the ordinary and make it extra ordinary... The kid really enjoy taking new adventures with him - even at a lake they have visited time and time again. Grandpa seems to add a little mystery to things... and with a tall story or two, my boys are raptured up into the game. You see, with Grandpa, a normal path becomes a dirt road that leads to a castle; a little duck becomes a messenger for the troll that lives up the river; the trees suddenly have eyes and the wind seems to carry secrets from branch to branch. It's just great creative stuff for a kid to imagine... creative adventure.
I remember those times when I was a child. He used to also take me on little adventures now and then. It was fun and memorable. Lasting memories. I'm just blessed to have both my parents near to help build those fond memories that will last a lifetime with my children.
