Welcome to my little corner of the beach in Southern California. I am married to one amazing man who loves me with a heart of Christ and who has blessed me to be a stay-at-home homeschool mom of three wonderful blessings. My heart is for homeschool ministry and helping others through encouragement. I've been homeschooling since the beginning and love it more and more every day.
I began my journey in homeschooling based on Bible scriptures found in Deuteronomy chapter 6:6-12 Homeschooling With Encouragement is dedicated to encourage the homeschool mom. I am the owner of a Yahoo group, monthly newsletter, two homeschool blogs, and the Weblink Education website.
Please take your time and thumb through my past postings as well as the Ministry links sponsored on this blog.
In Southern California, we are fortunate to have a replica of Independence Hall. It's open daily and full of historical artifacts and replicas. There are school tours available, along with speakers standing by to answer any questions you might have. It's great to see the workers dressed in a timely manner and talk as if they were living in that historic time of our founding fathers.
My husband, who has had the opportunity to see the actual Liberty Bell, was amazed at how this replica resembled the real thing. The size, crack, and plaque stood in the door way of the hall - with laminated newspaper articles about the Bell. Of course, after studying the history behind this wonderful Liberty Bell, seeing something so real was a great experience. Unfortunately, one of the elderly ladies working the counter could not remind my son about how the crack got there in the first place - neither could I (Isn't that terrible?). I had to go home and do my own homework and apologize to my son for not knowing it off hand.
The thing that impressed me the most about Independence Hall were the framed documents mounted on the wall. A photo and signed letter from President Reagan, actual books and journals from the time of George Washington. It was amazing to "touch" history in this way. In fact, a copy of The Declaration Of Independence was framed on the wall along with copies for purchase beside it. My boys were amazed at how real it looked! In fact, they became so interested in The Declaration Of Independence, they requested to go into the other room where actors re-enacted the signing. It's was a great visual way to bring history to life. Especially since our country now-a-days wants to keep God out of it - whereas, in the beginning that is what our country was founded on - prayer and worship!
I would love to hear if you have been to the actual Independence Hall - I wonder how alike the two are. If you haven't been to either... isn't great when you see your child's eyes light up when history comes alive? I love it! That's the joy of teaching....
I love histro you can see and touch and live. I lived in DC and saw the actual Declaration of Independence and once the Capitol had the Magna Carta on loan. That was amazing! I love battlefields (especially Gettysberg and Manassas) But I never saw the Liberty Bell. I did not know CA had a replica. Looks like you had a blast.
...and I posted pics on my blog in January. (Go to Archives, then Jan 08, then "PA Pics, Part 1" if you want to see them... I think. Maybe it was actually Feb by the time I posted them. :-) You may remember that I was privileged to be able to take my 12-y/o son on a "historical field trip" to PA in January. Altho' I was born in PA and lived there til age 5, I think that was the first time I had been to Independence Hall et al. It was definitely the first time in my memory. Yep, your liberty bell there in CA looks just like the real thing, at least it seems to from your pics. Except you can't get quite that close to the real one!
How cool...we haven't been to the real one or to a replica. I'm hoping to make the long trek out to the East Coast when the kids are a little older. We'll see how much we can get done in a couple of weeks.
