Welcome to my little corner of the beach in Southern California. I am married to one amazing man who loves me with a heart of Christ and who has blessed me to be a stay-at-home homeschool mom of three wonderful blessings. My heart is for homeschool ministry and helping others through encouragement. I've been homeschooling since the beginning and love it more and more every day.

I began my journey in homeschooling based on Bible scriptures found in Deuteronomy chapter 6:6-12 Homeschooling With Encouragement is dedicated to encourage the homeschool mom. I am the owner of a Yahoo group, monthly newsletter, two homeschool blogs, and the Weblink Education website.

"Satan's "best shot" against God and the people of God was the crucifixion of the God-man, Jesus Christ. And in that act, he unwittingly not only sealed his own doom, he opened the door for Jesus to offer redemption and salvation to the whole world. But that's not the end of the matter. Believe it or not, Satan can also accomplish God's purposes through the trials and afflictions that he throws our way. How? By helping us to cling to the Lord in dependence and prayer and, as a result, growing stronger spiritually."

All For Scout...

As many of you may remember, back in December my oldest son saved up his money and bought a baby hamster.  It has become his best friend.  He's got him trained to do almost anything - so adorable.  Scout has definately become a part of our family.

Well, on Friday night we noticed something strange happening to Scout.  Although he acted normal and is eating fine, we noticed that he has developed some large (marble size) lumps under his front legs on his rib cage.  After a few consultations with some vet friends, we realized that Scout has "hamster cancer".   It is common in rodents (no cure) and can usually take a hamsters life within a few weeks/months.  Yes, it broke my son's heart. We were given some cranberries as his chemo treatment,  but my son is more determined than ever to heal Scout through prayer. In fact, he titled this video:  "Please pray for Scout.".

Ironically, this same day also brought an e-mail from a friend I went to college with.  It seems like Scout isn't the only one waiting for a cure for his illness.  My friends son is 10 years old and was recently diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes which is an autoimmune disorder that requires insulin at every meal; that is, unless a cure is found.  As mothers, we all know what a struggle it would be if that was our own child diagnosed.   Well, on September 13th this little boy will participate in Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s Walk to Cure Diabetes.  There is no doubt that if we lived in Colorado, we would join the team and support my friend's family!

Well, I mention this because when my son heard about this "walk" to find a cure, he immediately wanted something like that for Scout, his hamster.  Well, we all know that those kinds of things don't happen for animals (especially pet hamsters), but my son wasn't going to give up.  He needed to do something.  So for a couple of days he mourned the thought of loosing his pet in a few weeks/months.  The story of my friend's son, Rex also set heavy on his mind.  So, today he approached me with this video of Scout and asked if I would pass this message onto you...

"I know you can't send money to a hamster to help find a cure for his cancer.  That makes me sad because I love him so much.  But I do know that you can send money to my friend Rex so he could find a cure for his diabetes. I know that Scout, my hamster, does not have hope to get better, but my friend does.  So, if you can't sponsor my hamster for a cure, maybe you can sponsor Rex."

Now, no pressure or obligation, but if this is something you are interested in doing, You can go online and donate today!  A tax deduction receipt will be emailed back to you.  Just go to http://walk.jdrf.org/, scroll to the bottom to the section titled "Support A Walker" and type in Rex's team name, Rogue Rex, and you will be directed to the team page where you can donate any amount.

Thanks so much.  I just couldn't resist this post because of my son's heart.  Thanks.

Oh that is so sad about Scout :( He will be surely missed, but how wonderful of your son to want to help his friend Rex! That is absolutely fabulous :) Wouldn't it be fabulous if they could find a cure for diabetes.
Hope you are having a blessed Sunday,
Rosina

That's so sweet of him! I feel his pain -- there's nothing like finding out that your pet is going to die, especially when you're a kid. What a neat way to turn tragic news into something for good. We are sending lots of love his way :)

that is heart-breakingly sweet. God I pray that you would use the faith of this child which is much greater than we grown-ups possess and heal them both for he is indeed coming to you as a little child. Thank you for being the awesome God that you are!

So sweet! My brother was diagnosed w/Type I diabetes when he was 6(he's 32 now) and the good news is that they know so much more and there are so many great treatments available(like insulin pumps, etc). Praying for everyone involved...and re-thinking the idea of getting our own son a hampster...

Blessings!

So precious. We have had many pet rodents and it breaks my heart each and every time we loose one to cancer. Makes me really wonder what is in the food we feed them or the water or something. We had pet rats for years. I hope your ds will get another of his choosing. They are awesome pets.

Wow, I haven't been here in a long time, Valerie! I wanted to mention that my step-daughter (17 now) was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was 4. We have been on one of the walks for diabetes, too! I don't remember how much money we earned for it, but it was a great experience. We just live too far away to do one right now.
