About SoCalVal

Photobucket

Welcome to my little corner of the beach in Southern California. I am married to one amazing man who loves me with a heart of Christ and who has blessed me to be a stay-at-home homeschool mom of three wonderful blessings. My heart is for homeschool ministry and helping others through encouragement. I've been homeschooling since the beginning and love it more and more every day.

I began my journey in homeschooling based on Bible scriptures found in Deuteronomy chapter 6:6-12 Homeschooling With Encouragement is dedicated to encourage the homeschool mom. I am the owner of a Yahoo group, monthly newsletter, two homeschool blogs, and the Weblink Education website.

Please take your time and thumb through my past postings as well as the Ministry links sponsored on this blog.

The weblink that I am going to share today is one of medicine - if you call it that.  It's for vision and color therapy for adults/children.  Not many people know about this type of reading therapy,  but the research I've done on it seems to be encouraging.  I'm still new to color therapy, but I thought I would share the link anyway.  What makes this type of "therapy" interesting is that studies show that children who have reading difficulties have had great success when they follow the program.  The  Irlen Institute theory is... by using certain colors laid over a page in a book, the human eye can focus better, the brain function better, and your able to read longer without sleepiness or blurred vision.  Over all, reading improves.  For some reason people who tend to have problems because words on a page "jump" around or run together, suddenly can read with no problem when using certain colors overlays, too.  Very interesting.  This weblink has simple tests and samples you can look at...

Summer is the time (in our house) to get all the dentists visits over, the eye doctor, the health exam and everything "medical" taken care of.  It is also time for me, as a mom/teacher, to do research on new ideas that can help my children to exceed.  This weblink is just one of "those".  Thought I would pass it on to you...

There is a program like that in our city. I have a friend whose son and husband were both helped by vision therapy. The husband actually had the best results, he is about 40 years old.

I was surprised at the high cost. I think many homeschooling families would have difficulty with the cost, although I have heard that the doctor here will work with families as to what they can afford.

This is so perfect for me. Thanks so much. My 7 yo is having the hardest time reading and I had heard about this but hadn't had much time to research.

I had a friend that used that with her children years ago. It was amazing the difference it made in her ability to read. Great link!

Hey Val,

We did color therapy with Jonathan when he was 3..not exactly the kind you are researching, but rather he looked at a light box and the color spectrum changed every few minutes. It is about brain processing (he was unable to look at some colors, it was interesting) anyway...changed his LIFE..not just academic but attention span and overall calmness. Great stuff.

I've been SO out of the loop lately, taking a bloggy vacation to write and get ready for a Christian writers conference in Canby, OR. Your blog looks terrific, Val! How's the sales going with your little e-book, etc.? When fall arrives, I hope I can dig up some more great links to contribute to WebLink Wednesdays!
