Gathering Children

How cool is this quote?

"Some would gather money Along the path of life, Some would gather roses, And rest from worldly strife; But, I would gather children From among the thorns of sin, I would seek a golden curl, And a freckled, toothless grin. For money cannot enter In that land of endless day, And roses that are gathered Soon will wilt along the way. But, Oh, the laughing children, As I cross the sunset sea, And the gates swing wide to heaven I can take them in with me. -" unknown

Hi!

That is a great quote. But it is your blog title that really caught my eye.

Came across your comment on jugglingpaynes' blog today. I had commented earlier and noticed while visiting again (not much activity amongst my blog friends today!) that there was a 2nd comment. Tho I don't normally "stalk" :-), I decided on an impulse to come on over to your blog. (Like I said, not much new to read on my friends' blogs, so I was looking for places to go in order to avoid the work that awaits me outside of computerland...)

ANYWAY, back to the title of your blog... I'd recognize that lyric anywhere-- you know, like between the lost and the found, amidst these ins and these outs, or beyond all reason and feeling.... (If you DIDN'T actually get your blog title from a song and have no clue what I'm talking about, I will be really embarrassed, but a visit to my blog archives and a click on my mid-September "This Was Rich, Part 2" post ought to clear up the mystery for you.)

You got it!

Not many people would "get" such a short phrase. It seems that he is almost forgotton and even unknown today. He must be in your blood too,LOL.
I was always partial to the "...hangin' empty and upside down" phrase.
Not in a depressing sort of way, just a human sort of way.
Thanks for commenting.

Thanks for stopping by again to answer my question! I had forgotten about it-- usually when I leave a comment on a blog I don't normally frequent, I just wait to see if the person will comment back and if they don't, I don't always think about it again. When I first started blogging, I too would answer questions like that on my own blog bc it made sense to me to do it that way, but I found that most people will just answer a question via a comment on the other person's blog. Sometimes I will do both.

Anyway, glad to know there are some other Rich fans out there. I could go on and on, but I won't!.... I've always liked that "Hangin empty and upside down" part, too. It's such a good word picture of how life can seem when we're not filling ourselves up with God.

I see you haven't made a new post since I was here last. Do you get too busy reading & commenting on other peoples' blogs to post on your own? I get that way sometimes. Well, well, well... whatever.

(That's from a Rich song, too, but you have to listen hard to catch it.) I was going to come up with some clever Rich lyric as a title to this comment, but after homeschooling my kids all day, I don't have enough brain cells left for things like that.

For the very best sourdough tutorial I have ever seen go here:

http://myblessedhome.blogspot.com/2008/01/how-to-make-ultimate-amazing-bread.html

Sorry it's so long, but I don't know how to make short links in comments.

I got my starter by mail order at: http://home.att.net/~carlsfriends/

Just look around the site to get to know Carl's Friends story, and request some. It will come dried and ready to re-activate. Directions and recipes can be printed from the Carl's Friends site. It is a while flour starter, though. I am researching and considering a change to Candy's starter.

Are you going to let us tour your fridge??

Blessings!

OOPS! I'm signed in as my daughter! This is Mommaofmany, not GirlofGod!
