Tightwad Tuesday
Posted in Tightwad Tuesday

It's that time again!! It's Tightwad Tuesday with our wonderful host, Mary!! If you'd like more tightwad tips head on over to Canadagirl and join us!! Thanks Mary for hosting us!!
Does anyone else get frustrated when trying to make copies from those wonderful 500 page activity books that we just HAD to have to enrich our children's education? Is anyone else trying their best to keep it in somewhat decent condition with the intention of maybe reselling it?
Well, I have a solution for you!! I use Spelling Power, which is over 300 pages and Story of the World, which is approximately the same!! My Spelling Power book I'll be using through 12th grade so I'd like it to stay somewhat usable. With STOW I need to make copies. That's not so easy even with the copier at the library.
A girlfriend of mine suggested this so I'm passing it onto all of you!! I went to OfficeMax, but I believe Staples also does this. They will cut off the binding and 3-hole punch it for you for next to nothing. I had both of these books done for under $6. I put them in a 3-ring binder I had laying around and
VOILA...

Not only is copy making easier, but everyday use is easier. The books now lay flat on my desk!! I will be doing this with any other large paperback book I may purchase!! Life definitely became easier after doing this!!
Enjoy!

This is a AWESOME tip!!
... but I have one thing to add. You can buy little round hole reinforcers ( I can't remember the name of them ((blush)) ) That way the holes don't rip. or when I am in a pinch I put scotch tape on both sides and re-punch the hole and wa la !! it is more resistant to tares.
Blessings and ((HUGS))

That is a great idea! My STOW book is holding up pretty good, but at the rate I'm going, I probably won't ever get around to selling it! I still have little ones who have yet to start 'school'!

I've heard several ladies mention using Staples for tasks like this. I asked dd about doing it with her workbooks, but she prefers to just leave them as they are.

What an excellent idea! It's good to know that that can be done for you. Years ago, I had a book that was getting dog-eared, so I ripped it apart and punched holes in it to put in a small binder. Same idea, but it took a long time doing it myself. I would have been glad to have someone else do it for me.

This is a great tip. We have been doing this for years and it really makes a difference. I used it last with MOH. I would pull the quarters worth out of the book and put it in a smaller notebook to make it easier to tote to the library and coop. Some places will do it for free...others charge by the page. Well worth it.

Thanks for your comment on my blog regarding my black lab enjoying her ice cream. Two dogs are fun, aren't they?
I did the same thing with my Spelling Power book. In fact, I just sold mine this spring, notebook and all, after 14 years of homeschooling.
Nice to meet you!
