The way I exercise is....
sporadic

The last time I did 20 minutes or more of hear lung exercise was....

As a result of my physical conditioning, I feel....
fat

and I look...
gross

It would be easier for me to work out regularly if I....
had someone to exercise with me

the most important benefit for me in exercising more is....
a better looking body and self-confidence.

my history of cigarette smoking is...
zip... zero... nada...

and objective observer would say my use of alcohol is...
very little

in the last 10 days the number of alcoholic drinks that I've had is....
none.

i would describe my use of coffee, colas, and other caffeine drinks as...
limited to social only

I have used the following illegal drugs in the past week
none

when it comes to drugs,  what i am sometimes concerned about is....
other people's actions when on illegal drugs and the addictive qualities of prescription drugs.

I take the following prescription drugs....

someone who knows me fairly well would say i am emotionally...
unstable??

the way I look and feel has affected my relationships by...
ummm.... not much really.

my use of drugs or alcohol has been an issue with...
nothing... I don't use either.

the best thing that I could do for myself and my relationships would be to...
get a better attitude.

8 or 9

on weekends I usually sleep...
the same or an hour less.

I have trouble sleeping...
when I don't have music on.

The night before last I...
didn't sleep much at all.

My quality of sleep is usually...

Tests...

As the test gets closer, one thing I do is...
I try to delay my studying and the test.

When it comes to taking tests, I have trouble...

The night before a test, I usually feel...
nervous.

During a test, I usually feel...
calm.

After the test, I feel...
Tense.

When I get my score, I feel...
relieved, and sometimes happy.

Interesting classes... or not.

Of the classes in which you are enrolled, pick the one you find least interesting. Write down all the ways you make the class uninteresting.
Physics.... I do not have a positive attitude towards the subject.
I sulk or do other things while I am working on it.

Now write down three ways you can re-create this class as interesting.
View it in a new light...
Work on it when there are no distractions.
Do my best to do well in it.

Reading...

Review what you learned about your reading habits in this chapter and completer the following sentence...

I discovered that I...
have used some of the reading techniques in this chapter already, but that I still need to improve in a few areas.

Quickly review this chapter and choose three techniques that you will put into practice.

I intend to....
Use the three Rs... recite, review, review again.  reading fast, read with a dictionary in your lap (I personally think that a computer would work the same way).

Managing time...

I discovered...
that I  have a good start toward time managment, but need to be better. I learned how not to procrastinate and new ways to manage my time.

2 strategies to work on for time managment...
25 ways to get the most out of now
What to do if To-Do lists aren't for you

In regard to strategy one, I intend to...
use it to improve my study habits and help the people around me understand that I need quiet or time alone to study.

In regard to strategy two, I intend to...
use the down time suggestion and the slow down suggestion when I find that I am stressed and over worked... Like when I start getting sick. LOL No!!! Before that!!!

Pied Piper Poem...

The Pied Piper of Hamelin

Long ago in Hamelin,

Rats invaded the the town,

The citizens made such a din,

Mayor thought and became down,

At his door, echoed knocks ensued,

The mayor called in the fellow,

Seeing eyes like needles, blue,

And a coat of red and yellow,

"I'll rid your town of all the rats."

The stranger said in sure tones,

Mayor asked, "How, with cats?"

"Nay, I'll charm with sweet tunes."

They agreed of a payment,

of one thousand guilders in full,

And the Piper's tune was sent,

As he went along with a musical pull,

Rats stopped what they were doing,

And began to follow the man,

No more noise of chewing,

And into the river they ran.

The Piper returned for his pay,

And the mayor refused,

Over and over, "I say nay."

And finally a threat was issued.

"You'll be sorry," the Piper knew,

and left with a shake of his head,

Playing a tune, different and new,

He left the city with what was said,

The children heard and began to dance,

"Follow the lovely tune," they sang,

On and on to the mountain in a trance,

To the mountain, helpless, forever the tune rang.

Monitoring Time....

I spent about a week recording what I did and am supposed to make a journal entry on my discoveries. This week I did really well with getting up and getting stuff done, so I had a really good week.

After one week of monitoring my time, I discovered that I...
can have a lot of fun when I  get my work (school and other)  and that I enjoy my time better when I do.

I want to spend more time on...
Talking with friends and my writing

I want to spend less time on...
cooking, because though I enjoy cooking, I shouldn't take as long as I do right now.

I was surprised I spent so much time on...
Reading! That doesn't normally happen exept for when I do get my work done.

I was surprised that I spent so little time on...
watching TV. I thought that I spend more time watching TV

I had strong feelings about...
when I was reading (Battlefield of the Mind) I felt really encouraged and happy.

New Year...

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! And a fairly happy one it is!  For New Years' Eve we went to another homeschooler's house and played games. Yatzee and Taboo! Both very fun games. We even missed 12:00 because we were having so much fun playing Taboo. :)

We are back at school work and enjoying the regular employment in the world of learning. We started off a little slow and got behind a little, but we are caught up and getting used to the work again.   I finished one of the books I was reading called, "How to Read a Book." and I am starting on the "History of Christianity."  I am looking forward to it as I believe that it will be very interesting.

I have started a new hobby. I have been making earrings from wire and beads. It is quite neat. I made triangular earrings and they look very nice. I have made diamond shaped ones and hoops and some that hang in a straight line until the end where it twists into circles, triangles, ovals, or squares. It is my favorite hobby so far and I have quite a few.

Well, that is all for now. I'll blog again soon (hopefully this weekend).

The Art of Dance...

Dancing is moving in a rhythmical manner, to music, that expresses emotion or tells a story.  It is thought that the impulse to dance has been around since the beginning of our existence and that it was the first means of communication between people.  Children will often dance around in happiness before they are able to speak their feelings. Dance is an art. It is slightly traced from the moment it was harnessed into a rhythm as in the clapping hands or stomping feet.  Although it has been only in recent years that man has been able to preserve the actions of the dancers.

There is evidence of men dancing throughout history in drawings, paintings, and sculptures. Aside from those, we can only guess how the dancers moved before the 15th century.  In the 15th century, there began to be descriptions of dances written down of how they danced. Scholars have attempted to reconstruct the dances of the 13th and 14th centuries but, because there are no detailed descriptions, they are vague and inaccurate at most.  It is possible to give a broad outline of the origin and function of the components and development in life.

It is quite unknown how archaic men and women masqueraded, but it is deduced that the rhythm was simple. Only spurred on by stamping of feet on the ground. Just as the rhythm was simple, the footwork was not very hard or intricate. These earliest dances are thought to have been expressions of courtship or just happiness. Dance soon came to affect the whole tribe y relaying results desired of a hunting or fishing expedition.

HAPPPPPYYYY BIRTHDAAAY!!!

Happy Birthday to me...
Yes, my birthday is this week. Friday to be exact! I'm excited, but I'm also not as much. I have the last day of the homeschooler's group and I have the talent night that evening and I have a group of younger kids performing a nativity play. It will be cute. Dad is going to videotape it. I have a friend coming to visit. She moved away years ago and she comes to visit periodically, but we don't talk too much on the phone or write letters much.

We are watching Canada's Worst Driver. YIKES!!! It is pretty bad... they are making me scared to drive. I don't drive much anyways, because I need to have more confidence and get more control over my emotions before I actually get my license. Oh yeah... It is snowing, too. We had no snow just a few days ago, but now we have a fair bit.

Anyway, I'd better go. I wanna figure out where to go for my birthday supper.

Stunted learning...

Today for our writing, we are able to blog about any subject that we want to. I have decided to blog about something I read about today. Why children learn only what they are taught and don't expand on the subject on their own.

There is a problem today in homes and schools all over the world. Learning has been stunted. During the time that they are quite young, children are naturally very inquisitive. Consequentially, they ask a lot of questions that adults may not know. They want to know anything and everything there is to ask questions about. Continuing asking questions that their parents don't know causes the parents to become exasperated because they are not able to answer every one. As they get exasperated, the children see the frustration and become discouraged. Because of the parents' reactions, the inquisitiveness of the children is voluminously decreased. Inquisitiveness needs to be encouraged in young children. If parents do not know the answer, I suggest that they take the children and research the question with them. This would promote a better relationship between parents and children and help the children to keep their inquisitive minds.

There... Those are my thoughts.

Time... thing I've wanted to do, but couldn't...

In the past I have wanted to...

  1. work on some writing for personal enjoyment
  2. hang out with a friend (but she didn't have time either)
  3. extra research on subjects unrelated to school
  4. learn German
  5. spend time playing games, etc... with my dad

...and didn't find time for the activity because of poor time management.

Something I did wrong...

Ok... so this isn't gonna be my favorite blog post. No one likes to say something that they have done wrong. My selection is of something I did just today. So here goes nothin'.

What I did wrong was that I didn't check with my dad before I tried a new concept in cooking. I used pepperoni sticks and fried them up with a batch of unconsumed perogies and onions. I didn't really stir the food enough and a bit of it started to burn to the bottom. While this wasn't the major problem, it was wrong of me because I have been told that I shouldn't try new things without asking. Honestly, I didn't get in a lot of trouble, though my dad did talk to me about how I have to think carefully about things and ask when I'm not sure. Despite the fact that I have been told before, I still neglected the previous information, which is not a very good excuse even if it wasn't on purpose. I learned that I do need advice on some aspects of cooking, although I do have good, solid knowledge. Trying new things is not always bad, but I have to remember that I don't know everything. Considering that there are many things that I have learned there is a lot more that I have to learn. I hope not to forget again.

There we go...

Poetry - part 4

Three original and unique examples of personification. Part of our poetry studies.

  1. The darkness swallowed all remaining light as weary eyes drifted closed.
  2. The wind flew by, whistling as it passed.
  3. The sunshine smiled upon the earth below.
There... That wasn't bad. I got it done in a few minutes.

Diligence...

To be diligent means to work hard and be persistent in finishing the task.  And that is exactly what Nathaniel Bowditch did. It is read in Proverbs that the diligent will prosper in their lives. Nat was fairly prosperous in his life, though he did have a few rough spots.  But, in spite of those rough points, he still was diligent with his work and did not give up when he was discouraged. Nathaniel Bowditch was the epitome of diligence in every stage of his life.

I can show diligence in my life by working hard on doing the housework and school work that I find overly challenging. For example, with the arithmetic questions that I have a hard time with, I should find the lesson that I had an explanation and read through it to help me understand. I also should give myself extra time for my problems and to not get frusterated to the point of giving up.

Master Student end of chapter statements...

In reading and doing this chapter, I discovered that I...
Have some really great learning habits (taking good notes, liking to get in and do things, etc...) and some not so great learning habits (not listening to instructions, etc...). I do have a lot to work on, but there is also a lot that I have aready done.

I intend to use the following strategy...
Setting goals for myself.

In order to use this strategy, I will...
Figure out what I want to do each day and write my goals down on a blog, notebook, or sticky notes.
